“And he got away with it?” He must have, to be free and part owner of a billion-dollar business.

Hali’s eyes probe mine as she straightens. “If you want to judge him for—”

“No,” I interrupt. “I’m not judging Kylian, and I never would.”

I’m not someone who ever believed violence was the answer to anything. Before Lawrence entered my life and I learned about what happened to Resa, I’d have been horrified at the thought of slapping someone across the face.

But now? Now, I’m not sure what to think. I just know the world isn’t as black and white as I always believed it was.

“Anyway, I know the attorney visit has nothing to do with Lawrence,” Hali continues. “Mom said he released a statement saying he was no longer offering a reward for you. I didn’t read it ’cause I thought it was going to be a million pages long and involve him kissing his own ass. Mom said it was surprisingly short. And vague.”

I sit up, anticipation fluttering in my belly. Can I move on with my life without worrying about him hunting me down or going after Pack Ashe?

I hope so.

“Really?”

“Really. So now everyone is saying that someone found you, but he was too tight to hand over the reward money.” She nods at my plate. “You should eat before your food gets cold.”

I take my time absorbing Hali’s words.

I guess it makes sense he would release a statement like that if Pack Ashe bought me for…

My stomach flip-flops again. One hundred and forty thousand dollars. Holy crap, that’s a lot of money.

With that sort of money, why would Lawrence care what happened to me?

Easy. He wouldn’t.

He must have gone to the Omega Institute to notify them I was no longer his omega. Something he would have to do if he wanted to register a new omega as his.

Surely, I would have to go with him, and they’d want me to sign something.

Then I remember how little power omegas have and how much more alphas hold in comparison. If Lawrence said he no longer wanted me as his omega, they’d just cross the pairing out in the register and not think twice about it. They wouldn’t care what I think.

“So I’m Pack Ashe’s omega?” My question makes Hali, who was on her way to leave, pause and peer over her shoulder.

Her blue gaze is serious. “That depends on what you want. But I think they would want you to be.”

“They’d be missing out on finding their omega if I stayed,” I say.

Hali gives me a small smile. “Have you wondered that maybe they have no interest in looking elsewhere? That maybe they want you?”

I don’t have an answer for her.

I almost ask her if the alphas ever talk to her about me. And about what she might know of scent matches. But that feels like a question I should be asking them, not Hali.

She nods again at my plate. “Eat and come down when you’re ready. Della stopped by earlier and said she’d swing by later to see you.”

I sit up straighter.

Della. How could I have forgotten to ask about her?

“She’s okay?”

Hali nods. “She’s fine. Said she’d be at home, sticking needles in a doll’s eyes the rest of the day.”

But she didn’t actually say where that home was. Is she still living in the servants’ quarters with Lawrence’s other staff? Or is she staying elsewhere?
