“I love your smile,” I say. “It’s one of my favorite things in the world.”

When the song ends, he gives me a sweet kiss on the lips and on his bite on my throat before he walks us back over to join Rune and Kylian.

Rune is still fussing with his tie and looking miserable as he does.

“You didn’t need to wear the tie, Rune.” I sigh.

He glances at me. “I wanted to look my best for you, cher.”

I cross over to him, grip the front of his shirt, and tug him down before I loosen the tie making him so miserable. “No, you didn’t. Not for me.”

“Yes, I did.” He kisses me.

As I study him, I realize something important.

“You know,” I slowly admit. “Now that I think about it, I’m realizing I don’t actually like these kinds of parties at all. So we should blow it off.”

“Blow off our own party.” Cian looks intrigued by the idea.

I nod. “We could do something fun instead. Like, I don’t know, jump in a pool.”

They look at me like I’ve lost my mind. Maybe I have. Parties like this were what Lawrence liked. I suffered through them, but I didn’t enjoy them. I love dancing with Cian, Kylian, and Rune. But we don’t need to entertain hundreds of people to do that.

It would have been more fun if it had just been us. Or if we’d celebrated tonight by having a bit of Pack Ashe cozy in the home theater with Hali and Nancy.

Rune cocks his head and then reaches for his tie, yanks it off, and tosses it on a server’s tray. “You know what? I have to say I agree. I never liked these parties either.”

Kylian and Cian glance at each other.

Cian shrugs. “Why not?”

Because this is our party, and a party is meant to be fun, I step out of my heels. I won’t need them in a second.

Kylian picks up my heels and places them on a passing server's tray. “Would you mind?”

We’re not in the center of the ballroom, but we’re starting to attract attention. More attention when my alphas grin at me, sensing I’m being serious about this.

I gather the hem of my dress, gripping the material in one hand, and say, “Last one in cleans the kitchen after cooking this weekend.”

Then I bolt for the exit.

Everyone scatters out of my way. I pass my mom, who smiles, and Della, who’s laughing.

I skid across the entryway floor, laughing so hard I nearly fall.

Familiar hands grip me from behind and right me. “Shit, you’re going to be the death of me.Careful.” It’s Kylian.

We burst out into the back garden, some of our guests standing around sipping champagne. They all turn to stare at us. I’m sure Cian, Kylian, and Rune are only holding back so I win, but I don’t care.

I jump, cannonballing right into the center of the pool, Cian, Kylian, and Rune following me in.

Rune pulls me to the surface with his strong hands around my waist. I come up laughing and smooth the hair back from my face.

And then we’re paddling in a circle when my laughter dies. Maybe because of how happy I am.

“What is it, beautiful?” Kylian grips my shoulder.

“Resa.” One name, and my alphas get it.
