No wonder we found solace in one another.

“She needs rest,” I finally replied, lifting her into my arms. Her head rested on my shoulder as her warm breath fanned over my neck. “I need to ensure we won’t be disturbed.”

Craven frowned. “To the Phantom’s lair? Is that wise?”

“Wise? No. Necessary? Yes.”

Craven didn’t argue. The older man’s features pinched in disapproval, but he walked to the door of his cottage, scanning the grounds. Once the pathway was clear, he led me to the old well, marking the entrance to the underground passages below Bianca’s home. Thick ivy vines hid the abandoned servant’s entrance before he brushed them aside, using the key to open the heavy iron door.

We entered the secret passageway that led to my refuge below ground. The home I adopted the same night I learned Bianca’s bloodline connected to Salvador Russo.

He closed and locked the door behind us. The ivy would slide into place and obscure it, preventing discovery. These tunnels ran the length of the estate, opening a narrow walkway through portions of the upper levels, but that wasn’t where we headed as I followed Craven deeper into the underbelly of the estate.

After several minutes, he stopped as he opened another door, revealing the entrance to my sanctuary. “If you need no further assistance, I’ll take my leave.”

His odd way of speaking never bothered me. I loved his use of expression and diction. “Thank you,” I murmured, dropping my chin to acknowledge his help.

“I will always be your champion, Benezio,” he replied in a tone that proved his assurance. “Remember, you’re not a monster but a man who must wrong the rights forced upon you, but do not pull the innocent into your dark need for vengeance.”

A sigh escaped as I fought to keep hold of my temper. “I would never compromise Bianca.”

He gave a quick nod and turned on his heel, leaving me in the shadows. As Lucifer had pointed out, I belonged among them.

This cavern had become my home. The hidden beauty starkly contrasted the monstrous visage I’d been cursed with at birth.

As I walked further into my hidden domain, a luscious waterfall whispered secrets as it spilled onto rocks that jutted outward at sharp angles. The water gathered into a deep green lagoon that merged into the shadows and formed a tiny inlet that crossed a wooden bridge. I walked the planks partially hidden in a thick mist that swirled around my feet.

Cool blue light shined behind a curtain of streaming water as I reached the end of the bridge, turning to the waterfall as if it called to me. Perhaps it did. The color reminded me of Bianca’s eyes. A deep sapphire that shimmered in the mist. Stone golems stood guard on each side of the bridge, remaining silent when I moved beyond them.

I brought her into my bedroom, kicking the door shut behind us. Moving toward the bed, I placed Bianca on the mattress and removed her shoes. It was too dark in here, not that it bothered me. Since accepting Lucifer’s contract, I noticed I could see as clearly in the shadows as I could in daylight.

Striding to my desk, I lit a few candles to brighten the room. A chill hung in the air, and I moved to the fireplace, igniting several logs and watching until the flames grew high. Warmth began to spread and fill the space.

My gaze swept over Bianca, noting how pale she looked against the onyx color of my sheets. Powerful love combined with lust as I dragged my fingers across her bare arm. Desire thrummed through my body at the forbidden touch. So soft. So perfect.

I caught the gentle rise and fall of her chest. Her skin glowed beneath the candlelight that flickered from my desk, and I ached to feel her beneath me as I pushed into her tight, wet pussy. Memories of the hotel flooded my senses, and I groaned. A part of me wanted to enter her and waken her with an orgasm, driving deep inside her while she came.

Such a wicked thought.

“Don’t sleep too long, mia Bianca. Our enemies won’t give us a reprieve for long.”
