Carlo flashed an evil grin. “That came later. First, Sal Russo ordered one of his men to fuck Benezio in the ass in front of his father. I heard he cried and bled like—”

I stopped listening as my gut churned, and I thought I would be sick. My hands slapped over my ears as I remembered the video and the haunted, pain-filled look in his silvery gray eyes. Benny was only a child. Ten years old.

Dio mio!I couldn’t stand it. My heart felt like it would burst. The pain. The horror. The shame. No wonder Benny never confided in me. How could he expose such a monstrous truth?

“You’re an animal.”

I moved a couple of steps, and he followed.

My chest heaved as I fought to clear my head. My breath raced through my lungs as the dizziness increased. I grew lightheaded and scanned the graveyard for an escape. There was no way I would leave this cemetery with Carlo.

He lunged in my direction, and I backed up, slamming into an obelisk. The back of my head hit the stone, and I winced as pain scattered across my skull. Carlo pounced, and his body pushed into mine as he stroked a finger down my cheek.

“Your phantom will never find you in time.”

Carlo’s hand wrapped around my throat and squeezed. I tried to fight him off, but I wasn’t as strong as him.

“I’ll get what I want from you, one way or another.”

Choking and sputtering, I tried to pry his fingers from my neck. His eyes gleamed with excitement before he threw me to the ground, rolling me onto my stomach as he straddled my hips. His hand fisted my hair and lifted my head, whispering into my ear. “I think I’ll take your ass first.”

The strain in my neck was almost too much. I felt my vision darken. My face hit the ground as he shoved it down and began tugging on my clothing. Pain sliced through my thoughts, and I groaned, unable to fight back.

Horror and anger simmered in my veins since he revealed my father’s murder. Fury flooded my body. I had to find a way to stop him. Now.

As hard as I tried to prevent his attack, I began to space out. Carlo squeezed my breast, and I whimpered. The sound of his zipper rolling down finally slapped me out of my stupor. I managed to lift a hand to his face and scratched down the side with my nails.

Carlo cursed as he grabbed my wrists.

And then I saw it—the hand of death.

A lithe, prowling shadow stalked toward us. Silvery eyes flickered at me as the monstrous phantom closed in.

“Carlo,” I shouted, wincing with the burn in my throat.

“What?” He fumbled with his pants and jerked them open wide enough to let his dick free.

“You’re about to die.”

His head jerked up as his gaze met mine. “You fuckingputtana—”

I pushed with all the strength I could muster and knocked him to the side, scrambling away as a whistle of wind flew by my ear. The roar that followed proved a beast had now found his prey. A tremor ghosted down my spine along with pleasure because I knew Carlo would die an agonizing death.

My gaze locked on the shadows that hovered around Benny’s body, numerous claws reaching out to rip into Carlo.

Blood splattered the wrought iron gates surrounding the raised tombs and all the headstones in the vicinity. Crimson droplets stained the earth with every swipe. His skin broke open as slithers fell from his arms and torso in thin ribbons.

I blinked as Carlo screamed, watching with satisfaction as my phantom picked him up. His hand circled Carlo’s throat and lifted him high enough that his feet dangled.

Benny turned to me as his furious gaze swept over my face, taking in my injuries as a wave of black rolled over his silver eyes. The being that stared back grinned as if he enjoyed that I watched. Fascinated, I winked.

This man, this monster, was my everything.

He dipped his chin, licking his lips, before turning back to Carlo. I caught the quick flash of silver that returned Benny and allowed him to seek justice. For both of us.

The shadow worked in tandem with Benny as Carlo was slammed into a nearby crypt. Taking a length of rope that I hadn’t seen before now, Benny lashed Carlo’s body to the concrete wall. Four knots wrapped around Carlo’s wrists and ankles.

He hung there, breathing heavily as Benny pulled a knife from the leather motorcycle cut he wore. The metal glistened in the moonlight.
