“Gathering?”

“A meeting.” Shade glanced at Wrath. “If his seal is in trouble too, then the situation is worse than we imagined. We need a full gathering of archangels and hell princes, and earth is the most neutral place to do that.”

The idea of such a gathering terrified Eddie. “In my theatre?”

“Your theatre is a hell gate.” Shade smiled placatingly at her. “It will be fine.”

Eddie wasn’t so sure she wanted to take that chance. “As members of this so-called alliance or treaty or whatever, don’t the guardians attend such a gathering?”

Shade’s grin was wolfish as he said, “Yes, but we can handle them.”

“You told me it was a three-way alliance.” The way Shade said handle made her fear for the guardians. Then she remembered Chris Fellows and didn’t give so much of a crap.

“I said we had struck a deal,” Shade said. “It doesn’t mean that all parties are aligned. Just that we agreed to certain terms for the well-being of the whole.”

As much as she’d like to protest on behalf of humanity, Eddie wasn’t a big fan of the guardians she had met. They didn’t appear to be the listening types. “So we go back to the theatre and call this gathering?”

“Yes.” Shade looked grim. “I’m not looking forward to the prospect. None of us will. And it’s only in the direst of circumstances we risk being together like that.”

“Because you all fight?”

Ahead of them, light appeared at the end of the tunnel.

“We’ll have to move fast when we get to the end of the tunnel.” Shade indicated Wrath. “And we can’t risk him waking up.”

Eddie knew she wasn’t going to like what was coming next. “And?”

“That knife needs to stay where it is. It keeps him weakened.” Shade looked entirely too happy about the prospect.

“I told you—”

“Eddie.” Shade’s voice went colder than a February wind. “We can’t risk him waking.”

Without waiting for her agreement, he grabbed her hand and twisted the dagger in Wrath’s back.

Flesh parted beneath her fingers and Eddie screamed.

Wrath’s body jerked and Cronus grunted.

“I can’t believe you did that.” Eddie snatched her hand away. He’d made her stab someone. Again.

“How distressing,” a man drawled.

Eddie whirled.

A tall, dark-haired being strode down the tunnel toward them. His broad shoulders almost blocked the light from the outside jungle.

Eddie had the nasty feeling she was about to meet another hell prince.

“Fuck off,” Shade snarled.

The stranger drew close enough for Eddie to discern his features.

His long hair hung to his shoulders in a silky sweep. Dark, soulful eyes stared at her from a classically handsome face. Humor clung to the sensual sweep of his mouth. “Hello.”

“Hi,” she croaked. If Shade was gorgeous, this being was the pinnacle of male perfection. It almost hurt to look at him.

“What are you doing here?” Shade straightened and glared at the newcomer.
