“I want to make it last,” he says, kissing my cheek, over my jaw, and down my neck.
I sigh.
“I want to kiss every inch of you,” he murmurs. He pulls the sleeve of my dress over my shoulder and touches his lips to the bare skin.
It’s impossible to stifle a shiver.
“You’re going to beg me to let you come,” he says, kissing back up to my mouth and then looking down at me. “And then I’m going to give you so many orgasms, you’re going to pass out from all the pleasure.”
Looking up at him, I feel so overwhelmed that I want to cry again.
“All right?” he asks.
I nod.
“Good. And bring your toothbrush. I don’t want you dashing off afterward.”
He wants me to stay the night. I swell with pleasure, but cover it with a mischievous smile. “So tell me, was Juliette right? Do you swear in the sack?”
“You’ll have to wait and find out.”
“She reckons you’re a tiger when you’re let loose.”
“I fully intend to devour you,” he says, eyelids lowering to half-mast.
My lips part, and my voice is just a squeak. “Oh…” I swallow hard.
Alex strokes my cheek. “What’s the matter?”
“It’s just… By the end of my marriage, Lee and I hardly ever slept together. But he was having an affair. Which must have meant that it was me he had the problem with.” My voice turns husky. “What if there’s something wrong with me?”
Alex rolls his eyes. “There’s nothing wrong with you.”
“You don’t know that.”
“I do. I’m an expert.”
“In what?”
“Everything. You’re young, smart, sexy, funny, and beautiful. And you’re going to absolutely kill me in bed, I know it already.”
My lips gradually curve up. “I’ll do my best.”
He blows out a breath. “I need to start eating steak.”
That makes me laugh. “I can’t wait.”
He kisses my nose, then my lips, for a long, long time.
Eventually, though, he lifts his head and sighs. “It’s late. I should go and let you get some sleep.”
I don’t want him to, but his promise of a birthday treat has cheered me up. “Okay.”
He doesn’t move, though. “Is it going to be all right for you to come over on your birthday?”
“Yes, Finn will be thrilled. I’ll see whether he can stay with Robbie for a night.”
“And your mum won’t mind?”
