“You inspire me.” I kiss her. “You’re my muse.”

“I think that’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

I kiss her again, this time for longer, and she melts against me, giving a long sigh when I eventually lift my head.

“I’m glad you were able to escape for a night,” I tell her.

“Me too.” She draws circles on my chest, then stops and gives me a mischievous smile. “Oh yeah, I promised myself I’d check.” She peels the duvet back, all the way down to our thighs, and runs her fingers lightly through the curly hairs in my groin. “Silver!” she announces. “You weren’t kidding!”

“Unfortunately not. One of the drawbacks of being dark haired.”

“Tell me about it.” She gestures to her head. “I’ve got the odd gray hair popping out. I have to dye them.”

I chuckle and kiss the top of her head. “You’d never know.”

“We’re both so sticky,” she comments. “That’s your fault.”

“You weren’t exactly dry as a desert, Mistletoe.”

“Yeah, but you’re the one who filled me up. Twice. What’s that about?”

“I have a very short refractory period.”

“Non-existent, more like.”

“Is that a complaint?”

“Fuck, no.” We both laugh at her vehement tone.

“Would you like a bath?” I ask. “Or we could get in the spa pool.”

“You have a spa pool? As well as an ordinary pool?”

“I do.”

“You don’t mind getting bodily fluids in it?”

“I’ll add extra chlorine.”

She giggles. Then she says, “Oh, I didn’t bring a costume.”

“Nobody will be able to see you. I don’t normally wear anything. But if you’re worried about it, you can wear one of my T-shirts.”

“No that’s okay, if you don’t mind.”

“Would I mind having a naked Mistletoe Macbeth in my spa pool, with her warm, shiny skin? Hmm, let me think…?”

She pushes me. “Come on. There’s already a wet patch on the mattress, and I don’t want to make it worse.”

“It’s on your side.”

“Of course it is.”

I grin, get up, and retrieve two toweling bathrobes from the wardrobe. “Here.” I hold it up for her to slide her arms into, don mine, and then take her hand and lead her out to the kitchen, Zelda springing into life and following us. “Want a drink while you’re soaking?”

She clips up her hair again. “I’ve already had two glasses of wine.”

“Oh yeah. I forgot about New Zealand’s Two-Glass Law.” I roll my eyes and take out two heavy-bottomed glasses.
