Hugh releases Callum. Both men stare at me.

I seize Callum's arm. "Come with me now."

The half-naked Scot winks at me. "Anything you want,gràidh."

"Don't get cute with me." I stab a finger toward Hugh. "I will deal with you later."

He twists his lips into an annoyed slant, but then sighs and nods.

"The show is over," I tell the crowd. "For now, at least."

Emery shouts, "There are refreshments in the great hall!"

Refreshments? Wow, they do treat this like a big party.

I keep hold of Callum's upper arm while I half walk, half jog back toward the castle compound, though I let him grab his shirt off the ground along the way. I don't slow down as we rush through the garden and across the courtyard. He keeps giving me sly sideways looks, but I will not let him seduce me into forgetting what I need to say to him. When he seems like he might speak, I throw him a sideways scowl.

He smirks, but doesn't say a word.

We burst into the vestibule, and I veer us toward the spiral staircase.

"Do I get to know where you're taking me?" he asks.

"No. Shut up and keep walking."

We march up the stairs, passing the first and second floors to head straight to the third and final level. I drag him down the hall and into the bedroom where I slept last night. Then I shove Callum through the door and slam it shut.

I fold my arms under my breasts.

His gaze veers down to my tits, and one side of his mouth kicks up.

"Don't be looking at my breasts," I say. "You won't see them again anytime soon."

"You are dead sexy when you're angry."

"We will not have sex, Callum."

"Then why bring me to a bedroom? One that has a large bed."

"No sex. Understand?"

"Aye. But ye do have a habit of jumping on me and begging me to shag ye."

I nail my gaze to his, leaning forward slightly, and speak with knife-like precision. "We will not have sex today. Nod if you understand."

He nods—and then grins. "I can wait until tonight."

This is pointless. I give up and move on. "What are you doing? Hugh is your best friend."

"Not anymore. He's atolla-thonwho can't handle the fact I got the girl this time, not him."

"You must be talking about some other girl, because nobody has gotten me."

He bows his head. "I know."

Why does he have to look so pitiful? I suddenly feel like a jerk who drove right past a lost puppy sitting along the side of the road in the rain. Well, I probably feel that way because I caused this mess. I made Callum lie about our sexual relationship and kept hanging out with Hugh even though I knew he wanted more than friendship with me. I told him repeatedly I don't want that. But still, I feel responsible.

"It's not your fault," Callum says. "I did this."
