“Just because you can’t get a girl to wan more than your wallet doesn’t mean Dad can’t find one,” Stacey adds, pulling my attention back to the doorway, worry filling me that she’s here and not with Ivy still. “Your phone went off, someone’s at the gate,” she explains, handing me the item I’d tossed onto the counter when I got to my girl. “Ivy looked a bit odd seeing them.”

I glance at the video, swearing under my breath, wondering what the fuck Ivy’s mother and technical stepbrother were doing here. I press the microphone button asking, “What the fuck do you want, Roberts?”

“I need Ivy to sign something,” Jeffery states and my jaw tightens. “Look, I know you picked her up after she left and was hoping you’d know how to get hold of her. I need to know where she is to get this bitch out of my life for good.”

“Five minutes,” I tell him, opening the gate before looking back at Stacey. “Let Ivy know Venus and Jeffery will be here in a minute, please.”

“What’s going on Dad?” Stacey asks while Zack sits pouting, holding a glass of ice to his jaw from the mini-bar.

“I’ve no clue what the hell Roberts needs signed by Ivy. My guess is it’s assurance she won’t attempt to try and overturn the old man’s will,” I admit making Stacey’s brow lift curiously. “I found Ivy walking away from their place about a month ago, after locating and getting an answer as to why she abandoned her as a baby from Venus. She needed somewhere to relax for a bit, and I offered to let her stay. Now, she’s mine, so whatever the fuck will get that bitch out of Ivy’s life fastest, I’m going to do.”

“Relax? Really?” Stacey said cheekily. “You saw her and wanted her, so you brought her home and have kept her, haven’t you?”

“And if I have?” I state.

“I’d say it’s about damn time you met someone you could actually be serious about, because I was seriously wondering if the men in this family even knew what emotions were. The way you sound when you were talking to her, the deadliness in your tone when Zack was being a shit, totally overrides any worries that she’s I’m assuming around our age…younger?” she hedges lifting her brow at me again and I let out a chuckle.

“She’ll be nineteen on New Year’s.”

“So, two years younger than us, not bad for someone closing in on forty,” she muses before heading back to the kitchen to my girl.

I point a finger towards Zack warning him, “Don’t say a fucking thing.”

He glares in response, and I head to the door when the bell rings, getting my anger under control to deal with the bitch that hurt my girl. Made her feel like no one could love her, keeping her from saying the words to me despite knowing she feels them. I don’t want to worry her by saying them too soon, not getting them in return, but it’s getting harder and harder holding them back.

I open the door, letting them come in, and lead them to the sitting room off of the living room. There’s a gleam in Venus’ eyes as she looks around the space and I’m certain she’s adding up costs in her head, wondering if she can’t play me the way she did old man Roberts. She’s probably around my age, maybe a few years older, but she’s nothing compared to Ivy.

“Talk,” I tell Jeffery, out of patience. It wasn’t bad enough that I couldn’t get home to Ivy until late, but to add in my son’s shit, and now them, I’m done with niceties.

“Like I said, I need to know how to get hold of Ivy for her to sign something,” he says, and I merely glower at him until he expands. “My father’s will stated that everything is to be split between his children. She’s trying to get a third of it by claiming Ivy now,” he adds jerking his thumb towards Venus, and my jaw tightens furiously. “The lawyer says a judge might take her side and claim that technically, Ivy is his stepchild and therefore eligible to receive a portion of the estate.”

“What the fuck do you want?” I question Venus, her eyes glittering full of dollar signs. When Ivy’s light up, they’re full of bliss and happiness, and fuck if I’m letting this bitch anywhere near her.

“To find my daughter, I was shocked and grieving when she showed up…”

“Oh, can it, super bitch,” Stacey says, her eyes warning me that Ivy’s not liking this. “Everyone here can tell you’re full of shit, lady.”

“How dare you speak to me like that!” Venus screeches, and my body tightens when Ivy moves into the room, glaring at the woman’s back.

“Come here, baby girl,” I say gently, holding out my hand, and Ivy slips over into my hold quickly. The surprise in Jeffery’s eyes sends his eyebrows back to his receding hairline, and I drop a kiss onto Ivy’s sweet mouth, rubbing her cheek gently. “You want her to leave?”

“Yes,” Ivy says, resting her head on my chest. “She’s nothing to me.”

“You heard her, Venus. Get out,” I warn.

“Oh, I don’t think so. In fact, I think I’ll be calling the police because you’re keeping an underage girl here,” Venus states, and Ivy lets out a snort that is adorable.

“News flash, Venus, no one buys the age you’re trying to pass yourself off as. You were twenty-five when you had me, I’m almost nineteen now, which makes you forty-four. The cops won’t do shit about anything,” Ivy tells her, making the woman’s face turn red.

“You came looking for me, I’m not getting turned out with nothing after fucking that disgusting prick for the last five years!” Venus screams, moving towards us until Jeffery catches her arm, stopping her.

“You damn well aren’t getting anything from my family,” he warns her.

“You won’t ever see a dime from me either, but I will spend money to keep you away from my girl. I’ll dig up every piece of dirt on you until you’re buried under it, preferably in jail,” I add, shooting a message off to my private investigator to start digging when that gets her turning on her heel quickly, exiting the space immediately.

“Thank you,” Ivy says, reaching up to give me a kiss, a soft sigh escaping from her.

“Jeffery wants to know if you’ll sign away any claim to his father’s estate so your mother can’t claim you as his stepchild and try to get her hands on it that way,” I explain to her, and thank the fuck he leaves after she agrees to sign them once his attorney sends them over.
