“Not gold,” I state when they see the new playhouse, swing set, and assorted toys in the backyard. The sign on the playhouse draws Damien’s attention and he moves over to it, reading it before looking back at me once more.

“You forget to tell me something a while ago, baby girl?” he questions, a grin spreading across his face. “You know better than to keep secrets from daddy.”

“I did a sneak peek test after the doctor said I was about seven weeks. We’re now at nine, and it’s not like I can surprise you that often when you’re always with me,” I return, lifting my lips to his, letting the others read the sign for themselves.

“Daddy’s girls only,” Lauren states, breaking us apart. “You’re having a girl?”

“No male DNA was found on the sneak peek, which means it’s a girl,” I explain, then pull Damien into the house before he can get carried away with kissing me to show him the last surprise.

“What do you think?” I ask him when I push open the door for what will be the nursery. “Think our little girl will like it?”

“You’re not worried this is too much too fast?” Damien asks me, and I know it’s just because I’ve been a bit worried that it took this long to happen. I went off birth control over a year ago, but this is the first positive test I’ve gotten.

“Nope, nothing’s going to happen to daddy’s girls. I know how much you hate people being here, so I had everything done in one day, so you didn’t have to put up with them. I think that deserves some thanks, especially for our anniversary, don’t you?”

“A spanking first for having strangers near you when I wasn’t here to keep you safe, and then a million kisses, baby girl,” he promises me, and once everyone else has left, he delivers on both, and I’ll admit, the spanking was just as good.

Not as good as months later when our baby girl is here, and Damien kisses me fully, taking in our angel.

“Now I’m going to have to keep the two of you under lock and key.”

“So, we don’t spend too much at one time again?” I tease him.

“Spend all you want, baby girl. Daddy’s got you covered. You too Lacey June,” he says, kissing our baby. “She looks way too much like you for others to be around, baby girl. If boys ever come near her the way they did with you…”

“She’ll have all our love, from here forward and won’t be looking for it where she shouldn’t,” I remind him. “It didn’t turn out that bad for me though, and it’ll turn out even better for our girl.”

“True, it did bring me my baby girl to love forever and ever,” he agrees, holding me all through the night, until he can finally love me entirely again.
