It was a shame that the girl had no paranormal talent to strengthen her case, but who knew? Perhaps they would discover that she had a hidden ability like Mia's.

His mate had thought she had no talent but had ended up with one of the best. Enhancing the powers of others was invaluable, as had been proven during the Kra-ell rescue mission.

He couldn't have done what he had without her help.

Stepping outside into the cool night, Toven walked a few feet up the block before calling Kian.

"Toven," he answered right away. "Is everything okay?"

Obviously, he knew that Toven and Mia were not in the village and immediately assumed something had happened to them.

"Mia and I are fine. We are at a bar with Mia's friends, drinking margaritas."

"Ah." Kian sounded relieved. "That's my sister's favorite drink. Amanda and Syssi started their bonding over margaritas that Onidu made for them." He sighed. "It was a long time ago, when we were still living at the keep, and Amanda's penthouse was across from mine."

"Do you miss those days?"

"Only the incredible excitement of falling in love with Syssi, but then I fall in love with her every day anew."

It was odd to hear Kian express such romantic feelings. He must be in a good mood, which could be helpful now. He might not say no right away.

"I know how you feel. I look at Mia every morning when I wake up and thank the Fates for bringing her into my life. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for her, which brings me to the reason for my call. Mia's friend Frankie got fired from her job. Do you remember who I am talking about?"

"Yes, of course. Frankie and Margo are Mia's best friends, and you wanted to hire them as beta testers for the Perfect Match adventures."

"I'm impressed with your ability to hold information in your head. As you know, the machines in the village are almost ready, but by the time they are, we will be sailing to Mexico. To cut a long story short, Mia wants to invite her friends on the cruise."

"That's—"

"Hold on before you shoot the idea down. The cruise is only ten days long, so I can erase their memories at the end of it without causing them damage. Frankie getting fired two weeks before the cruise might be the Fates' doing. Perhaps they are trying to tell us something."

It was a feeble attempt, and Toven felt ridiculous for invoking the Fates for such a frivolous cause, but he wanted Mia to have her friends on the cruise, and Kian was a believer.

Kian laughed. "That's a stretch, but I get it. You want to do this for your mate."

"Very much so. I know that the case for Margo and Frankie being Dormants is weak, but they are nice girls, and it's worth a try."

Kian sighed. "Yeah, I hear you, and I also owe you and Mia for your help with the Kra-ell."

"Is it a yes, then?"

"Yes, conditional on you taking full responsibility for them, erasing their memories from the cruise, and creating new ones so they won't wonder why they can't remember anything."

"I've done that before." Toven chuckled. "Perhaps that was what got me writing in the first place. I was creating elaborate stories for my lovers to fill the missing time from the memories I had to erase."

"Good, then you know what to do. I don't expect either of them to find a truelove mate and start transitioning during the cruise, so this is not hypothetical. You will have to do it."

"I know." Toven started walking back to the bar. "There is one more complication. Margo is attending a bachelorette party in Cabo, and we might need to collect her from there. Is a stop at Cabo part of the itinerary?"

Frankie

"Did you start looking for a new job?" Mia asked Frankie after Tom left.

Frankie pushed the half-empty margarita glass away. "I've sent out resumes, but no one's gotten back to me yet."

"It has only been four days," Margo said. "Give it time."

"I don't have time. I have no savings to speak of, and my parents are barely making it as it is. They can't help me."
