“Good evening, Mother. Are you busy?”

“Not at all.”

“Are you in the mood for receiving guests?”

Annani chuckled. “That will depend on who the guests are.”

“Syssi and I would like to share a vision that Syssi had and ask your opinion about it.”

Excitement bubbled in Annani's chest, and as she lifted her arm to look at her glow, it was much brighter than before. Perhaps there was a connection between mood and luminosity after all.

“I would love a visit from you whatever the reason.” She had to admit that the vision added a level of excitement. “Are you bringing Allegra along?”

“She is asleep. I'll leave Okidu to watch her, and if she gets fussy, he can bring her over.”

Annani laughed. “Am I a bad grandmother for wishing her to get fussy just so I can see her?”

“You are the best grandma,” Syssi said in the background. “We will put her in the stroller and bring her over.”

“She is sleeping!” Kian protested. “You know what happens when we wake her when she doesn't want to be up. She becomes a terror.”

“I'll be careful,” Syssi said. “Perhaps she should be there when I share my vision.”

To Annani's great surprise, Kian agreed.

“Yeah, you might be right.”

She could not stifle her curiosity. “Why would you need Allegra with you to tell me about your vision?”

“Syssi will explain when we get there,” Kian said. “We will be on our way shortly.”

Kian

“You're incredible,” Kian whispered after Syssi had somehow managed the impossible and transferred Allegra from the crib to the stroller without waking her up.

“I know.” Smiling smugly, Syssi packed several bottles and pacifiers in the baby bag.

Allegra wasn't a great fan of pacifiers, mostly using them as projectiles to throw at people when she wanted their attention, but occasionally they helped her fall asleep.

The soft pink blanket she had gotten from Anita was also a necessary sleeping aid. It was surprising that Syssi's mother even knew how to knit, let alone found the time to knit a blanket for her granddaughter.

Which reminded Kian. “Did you talk to your parents about the cruise?”

“I did.” Syssi transferred the command of the stroller to him. “Surprisingly, my mother was excited about joining and said that she would try to get a replacement. If she finds a doctor to take over for her, she'll let me know so we can make the flight arrangements.” She smiled. “It's not like we are giving my parents ample notice to plan. You only decided to go ahead with the cruise yesterday, and we are sailing in two and a half weeks.”

It wouldn't have mattered if her parents had months to prepare. Most of the time, Anita just didn't want to leave her clinic, and not being able to find a replacement was always a convenient excuse for why she couldn't come to this or that event.

And yet, Syssi never made a fuss about it or showed her disappointment, and it wasn't because she didn't want to see her parents. She was just selfless and accepted that her mother's work always came first.

His wife was the most understanding person on the planet, and he was the luckiest guy to have her.

“Let's take a little stroll up the street,” Syssi said.

It was only a few paces to his mother's house, and it was a pleasant evening for a stroll, but he had promised that they would be there shortly.

“Just for a few minutes.” He passed his mother's house and kept walking. “Are you excited?”

Syssi shrugged. “I'm excited about Alena and Orion finally getting married and all the other weddings that will take place on the cruise. As for my parents, I will hold off my excitement until their flight is booked, and even then, I won't allow myself to celebrate until I see them boarding the ship.”
