“I’m sorry. Kevin, right? I didn’t realize you knew my name.”

He puts his arm around Sarah’s shoulder, and my blood starts to boil. She giggles as if she is in on his game. Hell, maybe she is and knows when he is trying to make someone jealous.

“Well, hi, and bye. I’m late for a work thing. Nice meeting you, Kevin.”

I don’t have the patience for this. Iwilllose it.

“Bye, honey,” Sarah says sweetly. For her sake, I hope she means it.

“Have a good day, Alex. I will text you when class is over,” X smiles. It looks a little forced and I give him a small smile back. He really is so sweet.

I make a right down the next hall and call Cora instead of texting her.

Like I’m being haunted, I hear a voice saying my name again. His voice. I think it’s in my head until I hear it again.

“Alex, wait,” he calls, jogging up to me.

My heart is pounding so hard that he might be able to see it. I freeze as he gets to me. What could he have to say to me?

“You forgot your book.”

I look in my purse and sure enough, it’s not in there. When did I put it down? I must have dropped it when I was searching for my phone. I politely grab it, thank him, and turn to walk away without saying bye.

“What- no goodbye kiss?”

Heat floods my body. The fucking nerve of this guy. I like it- this little game we are playing- but I know I shouldn't. I look over my shoulder at him and he’s staring at my ass, so I pause and turn to face him.

“Why would I do a silly thing like that when I’m about to go on a date with your best friend? Don't flatter yourself, Kevin.”

He laughs. “Now, Angel, you know what my name is. If you keep pretending like you don’t, I’m going to have to remind you. I’ll make you shout itloudin bed and make it so you never forget it again."

I only have seconds to think before my body naturally reacts and I don't know if I want to kiss him or slap him.

“Save that for Sarah. You know- the girl you just had your arm around?”

I start to walk away again because I don’t want to say or do anything else that makes him think I care. I stare down at my phone, remembering I was calling Cora, and see that she is still on the call. I pick it up to my ear and turn to look at where Kohen and I were standing. He’s gone. Good.

“Oh my god, Cora. Did you hear all that?”

“Yes, bitch I did. He is a cocky one. Where are you?”

“I’m at Camden Hall. I’ll meet you at the Cafe.”

“Okay, bye.”

“Love you, bye.”

I make it out of the building and my notifications are going off. I see a text from X and one from Kohen. Of course, perfect.

Kohen: you ran away so quick.

Me: maybe it’s the fact that you have a girlfriend. I don’t come in second to anyone.

Kohen: Sarah is my cousin.

Me: sure, she is.

Me: convenient you failed to mention that in person.
