I scoff. “Don't call me Angel.”

He sighs, “I don't want to leave on bad terms”

“Well, too bad, you should have thought about that.” I continue telling him all the internal thoughts I just had. We fall into silence and a few tears fall from my eyes silently as I stare out the window into the dark night.

“I’m sorry. I… I didn’t think about it like that.''

More tears fall and I feel his warm hand on my thigh. I melt a little as he rubs his thumb back and forth across my skin. “I’m sorry if you feel like I’m overreacting, Kohen, but I just wish you would have told me. Communication is everything.” I look at him, more tears spilling over.

“You aren’t overreacting, you’re just reacting and that's valid, but don't be mad, baby. I only did my best, too.” He uses the back of his hand to wipe away the tears and I lean into it.

“Okay, let’s not fight, I know now let’s just go home and make the best of what time we have left.”

“Deal.” And so we do just that.

Kohen heads to the shower when we get home and I sit on the bed, phone in hand, scrolling through Instagram. I see all kinds of posts about a party tomorrow. My phone pings right as Kohen comes to grab some clothes. It’s Xzavien and nerves hit me like a ton of bricks.

X: hey gorgeous, party tomorrow I hope you can make it. I know Kohen will be out of town. I can keep you company. Lmk

I don't respond. I want to go and X knows we are just friends. Kohen won’t be here and there's no sense in staying home doing nothing.

Me: hey Cora

Cora: hey bestie what's up?

Me: want to go to a party tomorrow

Cora: is that a real question, duh I do

Me: okay cool, Kohen is going out of town and I don't want to be that sappy girlfriend that just sits at home all stressy and depressy while her man is gone

Cora: right.

Me: I’m serious

Cora: okay, I believe you.

Me: night, Kohen’s coming to bed.

Cora: night.

Kohen comes to the bed and turns on the tv, looking for a movie.

“So, while you're gone, Cora and I are going to that party tomorrow.” I put my phone on the wireless charging pad built into his bedside table.

“That sounds fun, you and Cora deserve a good chill session. I feel like y'all haven’t had a chance to hang.”

“Yeah, our schedules have been off. I don't like it.”

I roll over and wrap my arms around his body and lean my head on his chest. “Just do me a favor and avoid Xzavien while I’m gone. I still think he’s pissed that you friend zoned him, and I think he still likes you.”

I keep my eyes trained on the tv as I speak to him. “I doubt. Some girl came looking for him up here earlier and when I came down to meet you heard them fucking.”

He laughs. “X? Someone came up here looking for him?”

“Yeah, she was a tall, gorgeous model-looking woman. Trust me, he isn’t worried about me.” Everything gets quiet, so I sneak a peek up at him and his facial expression is just flat.

“Well, either way, promise me you’ll stay away from him.”
