No fucks given, I blow past the twins and into the office, the air leaving my lungs preparing for the worst when I smell her sweet scent and watch her run to me with her arms open. “Oh God.” She says crying onto my shoulder. “I was so scared. He was crazy. I tried to talk to him but he wouldn’t listen. I thought I was never going to see you again.” She is now sobbing into my shirt, soaking it with her tears and saliva and I couldn't be more grateful.

“Oh Red, I thought I had lost you. I felt my heart stop pumping. I felt my lungs deflate and the sun leave my life. God baby, I have been so happy to see a dead person in our office before. I love you so much, baby. So fucking much.” I lift her in my arms and breathe in the scent of her shampoo while she wraps her arms around my neck and kisses it.

“It’s over, Fletch. It’s really over.” She sounds like she can’t believe it.

“It is my love. It is over. You never have to be afraid again, Red.” I take her luscious lips and kiss her like no one is in the room. The slide of her warm tongue into my mouth is like the first time after being so terrified I had lost her. She begins rocking against my zipper and I smack her ass, reprimanding her for trying to get off on me when there are other men in the room. “Naughty little thing. Do you need something?” I ask her, whispering in her ear and kissing that space below her ear lobe.

“I need my husband to take me home and prove to me we have nothing else but happy days.” Shit. That’s easy.

Walking past the blood and body on the floor, still carrying my life in my arms, I stop by the Colonel and Paul. “Do you guys need anything from either of us that cannot wait for tomorrow?” Paul chuckles and shakes his head.

“No my friend. Go home and love your woman. We can handle all of this.” Thank fuck.

“Thank you. All of you for your help and for keeping the love of my life safe.” She gasps into my neck, sending chills down my body. “As a matter of fact, can you let the town know we are closed for the next week. I will contact the office in Charleston and let them know they might have an influx.”

“Will do, Fletcher. Now go.” He doesn’t have to tell me again. I carry her all the way home, our mouths refusing to unattach. This is what life is supposed to be like. Full of love, lust and family and not necessarily in that order.

I almost lost the only thing in my life that matters to me now and know that, I am going to take nothing for granted, ever again.

Florence

Six Weeks Later

I know as soon as I open my eyes that I’m about to be sick. I rush into the bathroom and just barely make it to the toilet before losing the contents of my stomach. When I feel instantly better, I know that I’m pregnant. My hands go to my still flat belly and smile. I’ve always been regular, but I haven’t had a period since right before I had sex with Fletcher for the first time. I decide to keep quiet until I know for sure. As soon as we make it into the office, I get Fletcher settled with his first patient of the day, Mrs. Prose. She’s back again. He doesn’t need me for her. He mostly placates the older woman. Once that’s done, I make a beeline for the supply closet and grab a pregnancy test that Irene, Carter’s nurse, uses for their patients. I follow the directions on the box and wait the required three minutes for it to tell me what I already know.

“Pregnant,” I whisper aloud. Tears spring to my eyes and I have never felt happier than I do right now.

Unable to contain my excitement, I burst into the exam room, the door bouncing off of the wall behind it. I am being super professional right now, I know, but I can’t bring myself to care.

“Florence?” Fletcher asks, concern laced in his voice.

“I’m pregnant!” I shout. He doesn’t say anything, he just stares at me. Maybe he doesn’t want kids and his mom was wrong? No, he talks about breeding me everytime he slides his cock into me.

We just stare at each other until the woman on the table clears her throat.

“That’s great and all, but what about my boil?”

“Right, of course, Mrs. Prose. Perhaps you can meet me in my office shortly, Florence.”

“Yeah, no problem.” I back out of the door, closing it behind me. I move directly to his office. That really wasn’t the reaction I was expecting. I’m pacing in his office when he comes in. He doesn’t say anything, but instead he pulls me into his arms and kisses me like he’ll die if he doesn’t.

“Sorry about that, baby. I’m so fucking happy about this. I was just stunned. I mean, logically, I knew this was going to happen sooner or later, but fuck. You’ve made me the happiest man in the world.

“Thank God,” I whisper before he kisses me again. Our kisses become desperate and before I know it, we are on the floor, with him inside me. Where he belongs.

This is the magic that I’ve been waiting my whole life for and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I can’t wait to see what the rest of our lives hold.

Epilogue

Fletcher

One Year Later

“Dada.” I love walking into the house being greeted by pure joy and innocence.

“Hey little guy.” I pick up my nine month old son, Austyn, from out of his playpen. He must have been napping and woke up. He just started crawling, partially because I had to force my wife and mom to put him down so he could figure it out. Who am I kidding? When no one is around, I have him in my arms too. I built a baby gate around his playpen to keep him inside of it. I kiss his little head that always smells so good. You know that baby smell? “Where is your mama, little man?” He just babbles away putting his wet hands on my cheeks. Smiling, I kiss his pink cheeks and start walking through the house in search of my wife, the center of both of our worlds.
