The mozzarella cheese is incredibly fresh and flavorful—a caliber of cheese that anyGourmet Magazinefoodie journalist could write a thousand words on.

I’m in Cheese Bliss.

It feels sort of like I’m floating on a cloud, and there could well be fairies and unicorns flitting through a purple sky around me. I moan.

Out loud.

In public.

Dear Lord, I must really be buzzed.

“Okay, that is seriously good,” I admit, before taking a sip of beer. And half of what made it so good was the fact that you fed it to me.

I’ve stumbled into some sort of alternate universe where men feed women across honey-gold, wooden bars. Where there are Christmas lights dancing around the room even though we haven’t even hit Halloween yet. Where ‘dirty’ food tastes gourmet, and the man I’ve avoided for years and years and years is now the only person in the world I feel like hanging out with.

My mood is so good that even the off-key croning in the corner of the room actually sounds like good music for a moment.

Parker’s glowing. Like there’s a halo around him, or his skin’s dusted in sparkles. Is it because he fed me cheese?

“Hey, I see what you’re doing,” I say, as I pat my lips daintily with a napkin. At least, Ithinkit’s dainty. But I’m definitely getting tipsy, and there is a chance my Tea with Queen Elizabeth manners are not quite as refined-looking as I’d like them to be. “It’s the wild-caught salmon treats, but for me, it’s mozzarella balls.”

“Is it working?”

“Nope.”Yes. One hundred percent.

“Yeah, it is,” he says.

“Not on your life.”

“You can’t lie to me, Gemma.”

“I can try.”

“But, why? Admit it. You’re attracted to me.”

“I will never admit that, because it’s not true. It was true, but not any more. But I’m sure there are plenty of other girls in here that’d gobble up your mozzarella balls if you wanted them to.”

He chuckles. “You’re cute when you lie to yourself. And I don't want other girls to eat off this fork. I want you to.”

I am hungry. I didn’t eat lunch. And I’m pretty sure there are actual festivals dedicated to cheese this good. I think I’ve seen them advertised, complete with catch phrases like ‘farm fresh’ and ‘fun filled event for foodies’. Plus, I can’t pick up a cheese ball with my fingers. That would be very un-Tea-with-Queen-Elizabeth.

“Okay, one more. One.” I hold up a finger to make my point.

He spears a chuck of cheese with the silver fork and holds it out to me.

I watch him as I take it off the fork with my lips. I blame the cheeseandthe beer I’ve consumed and Parker for the fact that I moan again. So good.

“I don’t see how you can work on an empty stomach when you could orderthisfor dinner,” I say, as I grab a fry from the dwindling pile.

“I ate this every shift I worked, for like a year straight, when I first—”

“Wait, a year? I thought you just started helping out here a couple weeks back. When Glenn fired you.”

“Ah. Yeah, well, I helped out before then, too.”

“You should’ve told me that! I asked you all those questions, for your Right Match form.”

Delilah approaches, counting bills while she walks. “We have some singles in the back office, do you know?” she asks Parker.
