He answered by twirling a lock of her hair around his very dexterous finger. “The feel of it against my skin is… intriguing. I have not touched a female of your kind before.”

Just peachy. “Well, I’ve never encountered your species either, yet I’m keeping my hands off you, aren’t I?”

Finally, the weirdo stopped playing with her hair.

Only to start lowering the zipper of his jumpsuit.

“What are you…?” Miya had to pull her head back as much as possible in the limited space to avoid the zipper as it slid past her nose.

“Get your clothes off too, Earthling. Hurry, we don’t have much time.”

“Uhhh…” All Miya could do was stare at the smooth expanse of his naked chest right in her face. “I…” That zipper kept going lower and lower, past his waist, and then–Nope, she wouldn’t peek. “Why?”

“We’ll land in water, I can hear waves below us. The clothes will drag us under. Off, Earthling.”

“Yeah, right.” As ways for a man to get a woman naked went, this was a good one, Miya would give him that. “You can't possibly hear anything from outside over the deafening sound of us hurtling through–”

His fingers went for the top of her zipper.

She grabbed his fingers. “Don’t you dare, you son of a… promiscuous alien!”

“Name’s Therak.”

He let go of the zipper.

Then grabbed the cloth on either side and tore her jumpsuit open.

Miya opened her mouth to shout in outrage.

The pod hit something hard enough for the door to burst open. Cold water rushed in.

Holy Earth Cow

Miya coughed, spitting spicy water as she awoke. She couldn’t remember what had happened after the impact, but a quick look revealed she was already out of the pod and amid dark-purple water as far as she could see.

The reason for her not being at the bottom of this alien ocean had one muscular arm wrapped around her middle and pulling her along.

“Therak?” She coughed some more as spicy water got into her mouth again. Talking when swimming through mid-sized waves was not a good idea.

“You’re awake.”

“Yes, alive and kicking thanks to you… But you can let go now, no need to exert yourself further. I’m a good swimmer.”

“I’m not fatigued.” He indeed sounded as though he was having a walk in the park. “You’re as light as aboringuan'sfeather. I’ll get us to shore in no time.”

“But I can help?” Gah, now Miya had water in her nose as well.

His hold around her waist tightened further. “Your body is too fragile for this current. I won’t risk losing my pilot.”

Oh, right. For a moment there she thought he had saved her from drowning out of the goodness of his heart. Miya must have lost her mind in the pod along with her jumpsuit, to think an assassin could turn into a knight in shining bronze armor. If Therak didn’t need her skills, she would probably already be alien fish food.

No more than five minutes into being pulled along like a rag doll, Miya felt solid ground under her feet. Huh, the shore must have been behind her back from the get-go. Thank the stars.

A moment later, she was in Therak’s arms, bridal style. She was too surprised at the ease with which no other man had carried her, to say right away that she could walk on her own. By the time she opened her mouth, he was already laying her gently down on the shore.

Soft black sand cushioned her body, and Miya decided to let herself rest there for a bit. To take a breather and appreciate the fact that she was alive.
