Could he read minds? She wouldn’t be surprised, following the telekinesis-like powers he had exhibited in the cage plus the invisibility his kind appeared to possess.

“Miya.”

Hearing her name on his lips, particularly pronounced in his deep voice, made her nipples stand at attention. She quickly crossed her arms over her chest.

“I don’t know exactly, but it shouldn’t be far from here if the pod brought us to this location. Had it not been knocked off its trajectory by the blast, the pod's programming would have ensured we landed by the nearest inhabited settlement.” Given their rough landing, she was glad the pod had ended up in water rather than on land.

Therak looked around again. “In which direction?”

Miya shrugged. “Your guess is as good as mine. I didn’t have the time to familiarize myself with a map of Xera since, you know… Trying to survive and all that.”

Instead of replying, he walked back to her in quick, long strides, a determined look in his eyes.

She lifted her hands in front of her defensively. She had no idea what to expect from him, aside from being tossed over his shoulder.

He knelt before her, his back to her.

“Uhh…”

“Get on my back. You won’t be slowing me down that way.”

“You want to give me a piggyback ride?”

“If that means riding on my back, then yes. My hands must be free to fight, if needed.”

“Not the colonists, right? Only some local flora or fauna that will try to eat us?” It happened at least once on every alien world she had visited: a plant or animal showed up craving a taste of Miya flesh.

“Get on, Miya.”

She sighed. “Fine. But the colonists are peaceful settlers, Therak. They’re not some armed goons that–”

She yelped as she suddenly found herself grabbed by the backs of her thighs and pulled against his back. She instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck before she could lose her balance and end up on her ass. She had enough sand in her crack as it was, thank you.

“What the hells, Therak!”

“We have limited time to waste. Hold tight now.”

That was all the warning Miya got before he broke into a race-worthy sprint upslope.

A Voluptuous Female

Miya giggled. There was no stopping the giggles this time around. Here she was, dressed in sexy lace and piggyback-riding a naked assassin so fearsome that a whole team of mercenaries had been sent after him. Oh, the looks on the colonists’ faces when they saw her and Therak coming… So sad she didn’t have one of those fancy eye-implanted cameras to capture the moment.

Actually, a photo taken by the colonists wouldn’t be a bad alternative. A short video, even. All the better to capture Therak’s beast swinging left and right between his legs.

Miya giggled some more. How did he run with a raging hard-on, anyway? That had to hurt.

“Your mind has finally begun to crack under the stress,” he said, not fatigued whatsoever as he overcame one dune after another. “You Earthlings are weak more than just physically.”

“Hey, don’t make generalizations, youalien!” She jabbed at his pec and barely left an imprint with her finger. Was his skin hard or were his chest muscles that tight? “All humans’ bodies might be squishy from an extraterrestrial’s point of view, but when it comes to our minds, we’re as diverse as life in the Milky Way.”

Miya paused while they were traversing a particularly bumpy zone before noting, “I, in particular, am mentally strong enough to be a pilot, as evidenced by my official license. Despite today’s… events, that hasn’t changed.” At least for now. “And, by the way, there’s nothing wrong with getting some tension out with a laugh.” Therak should definitely try laughing some time.

He jumped over a large crack in the ground like it was nothing. “Glad to hear your mind is still intact. None of the Earthlings I’ve eliminated have demonstrated such mental strength.”

Miya shivered, and it wasn’t out of being cold. Thankfully, the twin suns kept her exposed skin warm without burning it to a crisp. “And how many humans have you offed?”
