The water pressure finally under control, Miya could look up at Therak’s face without drowning in the process. Just in time to catch him smiling, specks of yellow brightening his gaze.
An answering smile split her lips. “I didn’t actually elbow you there, did I?”
“You did.”
“Yeah, sure. As if you would be smiling if the family jewels had taken a hit… Wait, you’re not into S&M, are you?”

Thank the stars. “Then why the smile?”
The yellow in his eyes intensified. “The Earthling brave enough to face a megagull head-on was scared of a shower head.”

More yellow swirled into his eyes.
Miya shook her head but smiled. “Amused at my suffering, are you? This is all your fault.” She poked him in the abs. “It was obvious there wouldn’t be enough space for both of us in here but nooo, someone thought we’d fit. Now we can’t even scrub each other’s backs.”
“I can easily scrub your back.”
She raised a brow at him. “Yeah? And what if you get elbowed again?”
His gaze began darkening, the yellow disappearing within the black. “It will be worth it.”
“My back?”
“Your hair.” His fingers carefully removed some wet locks from her face. “It’s different to the touch when wet.”
She grinned at the fascination clear to hear in his tone. “Ah, my hair. I remember now you consider it tempting.”
He ran his fingers through the wet strands, overly careful. “Feeling it against my skin grounds me.”
“Uh… I’m glad to hear it?”
“My focus has been compromised. It has been getting worse as we pass more and more time here.”
“Your focus on the mission?”
“Yes, Miya. Distractions are fatal. Bathing together should help.”
“You’ll focus better after you wash my hair?” Sheesh, this conversation was getting into bizarre territory.
“I need the contact. You too need something to center you.”
“I do?”
“You’ve been overly distracted, Miya. That was the main reason I wanted us to bathe as soon as possible.”
