“If you think about it though—”

“The chair? Have you been thinking about it a lot?”

I stuck my tongue out at the back of Gage’s head. “Enough to feel that that could be really hard on a guy’s neck.”

“Does it matter if he has a magic tongue?” Gage asked.

Were we really talking about this? Of course we were. We’d always joked like this. It landed differently after our birthday weekend, though. Because now I was picturing Gage burying his face between my legs. After the way he kissed, I was quite sure he had a magic tongue—

“Earth to Evie.” He snapped his fingers in front of my face, startling me. “Pancakes, and whipped cream are done.”

Breakfast. Right. “Strawberries too.” I grabbed us coffee, and Gage took the seat next to me at the four-person table.

We filled our plates. “A girl could get used to this,” I said as I shoveled a forkful of everything into my face.

“If you’re not used to it already, I need to step up my game.”

Did that mean something? Of course not. A week ago, I was watching him come out of the shower shirtless, in a shared hotel room, and we were joking about it. Just because we kissed… and groped each other until he got me off, and he came on my back while I rode— Just because of all that didn’t mean I needed to start acting weird.

I shook the thought aside. Mostly. A piece of my mind refused to let go of the memory of what it felt like to have Gage’s hands running over my body. When I looked up, the smear of strawberries and whipped cream on his chin jarred me the rest of the way back to reality.

“What’s so funny?” Gage asked.

“You have something… Right…” I pointed to his face then mine. It would be easy enough for me to get it. Or to lean in and lick it away.

No. We didn’t have that.

“Better?” Gage swiped the mess away.

I nodded.

“It’s not funny,” he said.

Was I still…? Yup, I was still smiling. “It’s kind of funny.”

He dipped his finger into the whipped cream, and smeared it on my nose. “You have something on your face.”

Now I was laughing. “Meanie.” I scrubbed my nose with a napkin.

“Takes one to know one.”

“Oh yeah?” I grabbed a slice of strawberry, dipped it in cream, and stuck it to his cheek. It fell the instant I pulled my hand away.

And now we were both laughing like loons. It wasn’t that funny, but the mood was right and the release in tension was exactly what I needed. “You have something…” I pointed at his cheek.

“Do I?” Gage dipped his finger deeper in the whipped cream bowl, this time drawing out a noticeable dollop. He reached for me, and I squealed and tried to duck.

Ooh, I had a better idea. When he moved to attach again, I dove in and sucked his finger into my mouth. I half-missed, and I felt the cream smear across my lips.

His groan made me freeze, and his heated gaze sent desire pulsing between my legs. I couldn’t look away.

Fuck it. I wrapped my tongue around his finger, watching him the entire time. Falling into the way his lips parted slightly, and the incredible sounds rumbling from his chest.

When he finally pulled away, the air was heavy. Did he want what could come next as much as I did?

“You have something on your lips.” The laughter was gone from his gravelly voice.

I consciously stopped myself from licking. “Where?”
