“Every time I think I have this place figured out…” Sawyer clucked. “Do you want to learn, Gage?”

“How to drink? Got that down.” I had a feeling that wasn’t what he meant, but this was far more fun than tossing cruel barbs at each other.

“Smart ass.” He didn’t look bothered. “I meant how to line dance.”

I most certainly did not. Not from Sawyer or anyone.

Did I? “We’re working.”

“I was working. The two of you were keeping me company.” Evie grabbed my hand and yanked me to my feet. “We’re done for the night.”

Sawyer stood as well. “Yes or no?”

I worked my jaw, not able to push out either answer.

“Hey, Xerxes—play Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” Evie called to her home smart system.

This was ludicrous. There was no way. “There’s not enough room in here.”

Evie jerked her head toward the living room. “There is in there. Especially for just the two of you.”

“Is that a no?” Sawyer asked.

If I turned him down, I suspected we’d be done for the night. “No.”

He raised his brows.

Fuck it. “Yes. I’d like to learn. Help me Obi Sawyer Kenobi, you’re my only hope.”

Evie laughed.

“God, you two are such nerds.” Sawyer’s retort overlapped the music.

Evie planted a hand on both of our backs and pushed us into the other room. “It takes one to know one.” She was having fun too—I saw it on her face and heard it in her voice.

It really seemed like I should be jealous. Then again, she wasn’t the one about to dance with the sexy man who had tossed our lives into disarray.

The song must be halfway over by now. Should’ve waited to start it. Still, having the beat helped when Sawyer guided me into the middle of the living room. We pushed a coffee table aside, and took our spot, him next to me.

He gave me a few basic instructions, and asked Xerxes to restart the song.

I didn’t do any better than any other time I’d tried this.

Sawyer’s growl said he wasn’t impressed. Good for him.

He restarted the song again, but told it to pause, and moved to stand behind me. “I told you I don’t give up.” His voice was as much threat as determination.

The way he pressed into my back, his chest hard against my body, and his hands on my hips, was anything but threatening. It was impossible to ignore the heat that zinged through me at the full-body contact.

Evie’s eyes grew wide, but she didn’t look upset.

The song started again, and this time Sawyer made sure I followed every step the way he did, moving with me through each kick and slide, and every single beat.

The longer we danced, the more I hated this song. But it was easy to ignore the reaction as the heat built between Sawyer and me. His erection pressed into me, and his fingers dug deeper into my hips each time we moved.

Should I feel guilty for enjoying this? For being so turned on?

The way Evie watched us, captivated and bottom lip caught between her teeth, I didn’t think so.
