“Not only for children but for pleasure. Both male and female should enjoy lovemaking.” Marcus sucked in a deep breath and prayed he didn’t explode. She wasn’t doing anything except asking questions, yet every inch of him sizzled with energy and need. Rory, his friend, had explained that sex was ten times better with a mate, but Marcus hadn’t understood how until now.
She dipped her head and licked across his tip, the rough drag of her feline tongue almost sending him into orbit. “You taste interesting.”
“Did the scientists—?”
“No,” she said, meeting his gaze. “They wished to wait until I was mature, and also, they were searching for another of my kind. They did not find one.”
That was something. “Would you like me to show you how it all works?”
Ria studied his expression, and what she saw must’ve bolstered her because she nodded.
“There is one more thing I need to ask you. What do you know of the mating process?”
“Not much.”
“Wolves and felines—at least the ones I know of—mark their mates here.” He tapped on the fleshy pad where neck and shoulder met. “We do this by biting, which allows our enzymes to mix. Once this happens, the mating ties are even stronger, and only death will break the bond. Even then, from what I hear, the surviving mate finds life difficult.”
“You would bite me here?”
“Yes, and you would bite me in the same way. Here.” He tapped his mating site. “We won’t do this today. I want to give you time to become used to me and the idea of us together. Do you understand?”
“Yes, thank you for explaining this to me. All the shifters in Middlemarch have this mark?”
“The ones who have found their mates.”
“But some are human.”
“Yes, in this case, the shifter will bite their mate. This gives humans greater immunity to disease and allows them to age more slowly to match their partner.”
“I did not see this on TV.”
“No, it is something only shifters are aware of. We keep it a secret.”
She nodded. “Show me,” she said, her voice imperious.
Marcus bit back a smile and rolled toward her, giving her some of his weight. He nuzzled her neck and gave her a hint of teeth at her mating site, just enough to tease.
Ria shuddered and clasped him closer. Not wanting to push, he moved on in his exploration. His fingers skimmed her shoulders and arms before drifting to her breasts. He cupped one globe and licked around the areola until he’d tormented her nipple to a hard point. Only then did he take it into his mouth and suck. Her entire body shuddered, and a purr accompanied this. Her hands settled on his shoulders, keeping him close, and his heart and wolf sang in victory. She wanted him as much as he craved her.

Marcus swapped from breast to breast while she held him close, glorying in his solid weight.
After long moments where she turned to soft mush, he moved farther down her body and parted her legs. Cool air contrasted with the heat of her flesh, and her heart thumped louder. Faster. Marcus glanced up at her and grinned as if pleased with her response. Could he hear her pulse? It was deafening. And purrs kept vibrating up her throat because his presence brought excitement and happiness.
He drew a fingertip up the inside of her thigh, and that touch leaped over her body, that one caress hitting every inch of her skin.
“Are you ready?” His voice was husky, and his eyes sparkled with humor.
Ready for what, she wanted to ask, then he dragged his finger higher across soft, damp flesh. That fingertip traced back and forth, and the sensations that raced through her were magical.
“More,” she pleaded.
“You like that.”
“Yes.” She almost cried when he lifted his finger away, and she opened her mouth to protest.
“Shush, sweetheart,” he whispered. “You’ll like this, I promise.”
