“Why did you have your goons bring me here?”

She draped her long, shapely body back over the throne and motioned for one of the new frat boys. He hustled to her side with a large bowl of fresh fruit, and she picked through it as she answered.

“I wanted to get a look at you. When the offspring of your enemy lands on your doorstep, it’s only natural to be curious. Don’t you agree, Moira?”

NEVER

I stiffened at the sound of my real name coming from her lips, and only barely managed to keep my tongue in check by balling my hands into fists and digging my fingernails into my palms.

“Oh, wait.” She glanced up at me through impossibly long lashes. “You don’t like that name, do you? Shoot. What is it you call yourself again?” She tilted her head to the sky and tapped a finger against her lips like she was thinking.

It was a show, of course. She was stalling for effect, which only pissed me off more.

“Never,” I snapped.

A knowing smile spread across her face. I wanted to slap it off.

“Yes.” She drew the word out like a hiss. Her tongue flicked out and ran along the edges of her teeth, which were straight, white, and vaguely threatening.

The only person, reasonably, who could have told her my real name was Matty.

“Where is he? Where is my brother?”

The sultry brunette with skin the color of warm bronze flashed a wicked grin and plucked a piece of fruit from the bowl. It was similar to a peach in size and shape, but the coloring was off, so pale it was almost ivory.

“Not entirely unintelligent, I see,” she said, adding insult to injury by sounding genuinely impressed.

“I’m so glad you approve.”

She ignored the sarcasm layering my words and looked at the college-aged kid kneeling beside her with the bowl, motioning for him to set it down. When he did, looking up at her like a puppy desperate for praise, she leaned in and kissed him deeply, passionately. After a moment, she pushed him away just enough to whisper in his ear, and he began kissing his way down her chin and her neck.

I felt like a pervert for watching, but a quick glance at the others told me I wasn’t the only one caught in the trance. Was that good or bad?

The frat boy’s tongue traced a line over her collar bone, and I shivered imagining the sensation. He kept going, dipping his tongue into the hollow of her throat before licking and sucking his way gently down one breast and circling her tight nipple.

It was unlike anything I’d ever seen before, at least in person. I wasn’t a prude, I’d seen a little porn and worn out more than my fair share of battery-powered toys, but this was different. Wickedly erotic in a way that had my body coiling with liquid desire.

Oh shit. Was I a closet voyeur?

It was then that I realized she was watching me. Intently. My cheeks flared with heat, and I tried to turn away, but Adonis—Leo—grabbed me by the arm and forced me to stay put.

It was another show and she wanted me to watch.

So many thoughts tried to rush forward at once that my brain felt like there was a pile up inside, jamming up the flow of traffic and bringing everything to a slow, brutal crawl. Dots were connecting and puzzle pieces were coming together, but it was all happening too slow. It didn’t help my focus in the slightest when she brought the fleshy fruit to her lips and bit down, closing her eyes and moaning at the taste.

The juice dribbled down her chin, thick and red, like blood.

She opened her eyes and smiled suggestively at me, but her face changed from the kind of beauty that would make a straight woman question her sexuality to something else entirely. Her eyes took on a deep, green glow, and her movie star teeth sharpened to small, tightly packed points. Recognition hit me like a bus.

The demon that had attacked me in the park, the one that left its thick, black, stinking blood smeared on my windowsill; it was her.

I replayed my interaction with Anya, remembering that one word that tripped me up before she transported us from the cave. Those three, crucial little letters. She.

“Pan.”

“In the flesh.” The demon’s grotesque face shimmered, replaced again by the breathtaking beauty, except she wasn’t so breathtaking anymore. “Though people here call me Petra.”
