“Like I said,” he all but growled the words, “Because I have shit to do. Don’t you?”

Ginny put her hands on her hips as she huffed and fought back a smile when Gavin’s eyes dropped to her chest. But as quickly as he looked at her breasts, he looked away, shaking his head. She felt a little pride in knowing that her plan worked, but maybe it worked too well since he wouldn’t look at her or be close enough for her to touch him.

“Is that the only reason?” she asked, now not even a little worried about irritating the beast. He was irritatingher, after all.

Gavin grunted and dropped the papers in his hands to lean back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest. Her attention was drawn to his strong and veiny forearms and then up to his biceps, where the sleeves of his t-shirt curled up slightly. Why did the universe give him everything good? When her eyes lifted to his face, she found one side of his mouth lifted in a smirk. Because of course he caught her ogling him. It was only fair, he’d ogled her plenty that week and now it was her turn.

Rolling her eyes, Ginny flipped him off and went back to what she was doing. Which, as she stared at the papers in front of her, didn’t make sense.Ugh. She shuffled everything and took a deep breath before sorting through them again.Right, final checklist for the animals up for adoption. Flipping her laptop open, Ginny sat down and went through the profiles she and Bronte had worked on, double checking for typos. She then uploaded it onto the Party Central server and sent a link to the printer, with all the specifications.

As she ticked that off the list, her phone buzzed. Ginny got to her feet at the name of the caterer and walked around to where Gavin was sitting as she answered the call. He looked up and did a slow survey of her body—eyes still snagged on her breasts and legs a little longer—before fixing on her face as she spoke to the woman on the other end.

“Hold on a minute,” she told the woman and tilted the phone away as she turned to Gavin. “New caterer can make everything on the menu, but it’ll cost us about fifteen percent more.”

“Are they worth it?”

“The weddings they’ve catered have liked the food. Plus, they will donate a portion of their earnings to shelters across the state.” His eyes widened slightly, but he just simply shrugged before holding up both hands, fingers splayed. She rolled her eyes, but relayed the message. When the caterer agreed to the price negotiation, she asked them to send over the invoice and hung up. “Didn’t realize I was dealing with an expert negotiator.”

“Didn’t think it would work.”

She arched an eyebrow at his chuckle and leaned against the side of the table. “Really?”

“Gotta take some shots every now and then, some land and others don’t.” He shrugged and met her eyes briefly before pushing to his feet. Ginny didn’t know if he was talking about her withtaking some shots, but she agreed with that logic. “I’m gonna make some coffee, then we can do the seating chart?”

Nodding, she watched Gavin as he walked out of the room, the scent of sunshine and freshly laundered clothes wafting over her in the process. The need to grab him, kiss him and fuck him overpowered all her senses and Ginny forced herself to breathe normally as she straightened up. Shefelthim return to the room and Ginny closed her eyes for a moment, trying to ignore the electricity that filled the space. It had been there before, but like a low hum. Now, it was a live wire and she wanted to touch it, even though she knew that was a bad idea.

“Ready?” he asked, the warmth of him against her back. Ginny nodded and turned halfway to look at Gavin as he held a mug out to her. “Figured you’d like some too.”

Motherfucker. “Thanks,” she mumbled and took the coffee, making sure not to touch him. Stepping around Gavin, Ginny set the mug down on the table so she could spread out the table arrangement she’d printed out. “You go through the guest list and tell me who goes where.”

He took the printed list of names from her and nodded, eyes locking on hers. “What?”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“You’re looking at me funny,” he countered.

Ginny wished the shadow from the beak of his cap blocked out his piercing gaze, but it magnified the lushness of the green.

It took her a minute to come up with a response, and even as she said the words, Ginny knew how lame it sounded. “Youarefunny looking.”

He chortled and shook his head, like he knew that she didn’t believe her own words. Rolling her eyes, Ginny focused on the table chart as she grabbed a pen and marked out the tables from one to eight. He called out names and table numbers while she filled in the little chair drawings with a pencil. Every so often, he’d change his mind and she’d have to erase the original name and write the new one. She knew that he wasn’t doing it to be annoying, but by the time she’d done it ten times, Ginny was fed up.

“Can you just commit to it!”

“Whoa.” He straightened at her outburst and Ginny groaned as she rubbed her forehead. “That’s rich coming from you.”

Oh no, he didn’t.Turning on him, Ginny made sure her glare was at full power. “That was absolutely uncalled for.”

“Was it, though? You walked into that one.”

“Why did I think working with you would be a good idea?” she mumbled, because anything else she said would only provoke more of a fight. Instead she focused on erasing the name he wanted to change again. And they’d been doing so well without any fights for the past week.

“Happy to remind you that we’re in this position because ofyou.”

Ginny dropped the pencil and turned to him again. “Such a fucking child. You could have found someone else, even if your mother guilted you into working with me.”

“My mother did no such thing.”

“Keep telling yourself that.”
