“This is how I’m thinking we should do it,” she told him, stretching up to kiss his cheek. “I’ll wear my bra while we arrange the flowers and if it’s in the way, then I can take it off, otherwise just lower the straps and do the shoot that way.”

“Definitely don’t want to scratch up those pretty nipples.”

“Behave.” She poked him in the stomach and Gavin laughed, kissing the tip of her nose before stepping aside.

Ginny peeled off her tank while Gavin unwrapped one of the bouquets. She undid the button of her denim cutoffs and together, they carefully stuffed the flowers into the waistband, arranging them in a way that they covered her breasts. Some of the stems were too long, so Gavin broke them off before slipping them into her shorts. By the time they were done, they’d used up two of the four bouquets and Ginny only had to slide off her bra straps to keep everything hidden. Because Gavin was right; she did not want to scratch up or irritate her nipples in any way.

“Do you wanna put some in your hair too?”

“Ooh, that’s a good idea.” She nodded and held the flowers against her stomach while Gavin slid some of the baby’s breath into her hair. Before he stepped away, Gavin stole a kiss that made her smile. “How do I look?”

“Extraordinary.” He took a picture using his phone and then held it out to Ginny. She gasped at how good it looked, better than she imagined. The sunlight fell perfectly on her, drawing out the brown in her hair. The combination of the colorful flowers and her darker skin was stunning, plus her tattoos popped with the perfect balance. Ginny always felt beautiful, but in that picture she looked exquisite, if she said so herself.

“You ready?” he asked and Ginny nodded, then stood on her first mark, a hand over her stomach to cover the unbuttoned shorts and hold the flowers in place. When she was ready, she nodded at Gavin and he gently pressed the button on her camera like she’d taught him. She changed angles and the shutter of her camera echoed in the space. Ginny switched again, shifted marks and made sure to hide her bra strap from every shot as she moved. Every so often, she’d come over and they’d go through what pictures they had, before she tried something new. And Gavin followed her instructions, capturing everything.

“I have another idea,” Gavin said when Ginny was finally satisfied with all the shots they got. “Can you stay like that for a few more minutes?”

“Depends…”

“Trust me.”

He grinned and then turned to the flowers, grabbing a handful of the baby’s breath. Ginny tilted her head as Gavin walked to where Cedar was snoozing on the blanket and Copper was tucked inside the carrier. From her angle, she couldn’t see what he was doing, but she could see his shoulders shaking with laughter.

When Gavin stood up, Copper in his arms and Cedar trotting beside him, a laugh bubbled out of her. Both pets had lopsided flower crowns, or at least what were supposed to be crowns, but they looked so beautiful.

“You hold Copper and Cedar can stand beside you.”

“What about you?”

“Sure you want to put my mug on your Instagram?”

She smiled, remembering the number of responses she got to the picture she put up of their linked hands a few weeks ago. “Maybe. Or maybe it’s just for us.”

Gavin nodded slowly and then pulled off his t-shirt as well, grabbing whatever flowers he could and started stuffing them into the waistband of his shorts. But unlike hers, Gavin’s shorts couldn’t hold the flowers, so when he turned to her with a pout, she burst out laughing.

“Just hold them,” she said, carefully settling Copper on his shoulder as Gavin adjusted the flowers in his arms. “Can you stand on the mark? I want to line up the shot.”

Gavin stood where she’d drawn an X, one hand holding the flowers, the other scratching the top of Cedar’s head. Once she’d framed the shot and set the timer, Ginny hurried back to Gavin. She wrapped one arm around his waist as the light on her camera started flashing and looked up at him, finding him grinning at her at the same time, as the picture was taken.

“I love you, Nia,” he whispered, eyes searching hers until Copper meowed and interrupted their moment. They laughed and set her down, pulling the flowers off hers and Cedar’s heads as they charged back to the blanket.

They worked in silence, putting the flowers back into the box, wrapping them up the best they could. As Ginny packed up her camera equipment, he tucked Copper back into her carrier and put their bowls and blanket away.

It wasn’t the first time he’d said those words to her, but it was the first time there was so much love and feeling behind it. Gently sliding the backpack onto her shoulders, Ginny watched Gavin and Cedar with a small smile.

“Hey.” Gavin turned to her, smile still in place, lighting up his eyes. “I love you too.”

His expression froze, but eyes widened slowly as he stared at her. “What?”

“That love thing…you know…” she joked and moved towards him, hands cupping his face. “I love you too, Gavin.”

And his mouth was on hers, making Ginny stumble and laugh as their kiss turned messy. She steadied herself and pulled back to look at Gavin. “Never thought we needed practice, but we’ll work on getting our surprise kisses right.”

He nodded wordlessly, clearly still too shocked to say or do anything else.

CHAPTER31

The photoshoot had beenfun and way more work than Gavin expected. While he knew nothing about how Instagram worked or what people wanted to see on the platform, he knew how to take decent pictures. And capturing Ginny was the easiest thing in the world to do.
