Once they’re gone, I feel an overwhelming sense of loneliness wash over me. Their absence leaves a void in my chest that I didn’t know existed until now. Determined not to spend the entire day wallowing in bed, I force myself to get up and get dressed.

I throw on a pair of jeans and a soft top, opting for comfort over style. Ciarán went back to my place for a few clothes, but I really need to go and clear the whole house out and put it up for sale. It brings a tear to my eye, but I know it’s the right decision.

As I move around the apartment, I catch glimpses of Ciarán and Cathal’s belongings, little reminders of their presence that both comfort and taunt me. I slip into my sneakers, steeling myself for the inevitable confrontation with my thoughts.

Picking up my bag and pushing the penthouse door open, I rush to the elevator without a second thought. My heart races, each thud echoing through my chest as adrenaline courses through my veins. I can’t shake the feeling that something terrible is about to happen.

As I reach the ground floor, my blood lurches in my veins. I catch sight of Ciarán and Cathal through the glass entrance doors of the apartment building. They’re walking purposefully toward Cathal’s sleek black Ferrari, parked just a little way down the road.

“Wait!” I shout, pushing open the heavy door and sprinting towards them.

Ciarán turns around, his eyes widening in surprise when he sees me, panic in his tone as he walks back to meet me. “Tinks?” he says, his steady, “What is it?”

“I... I couldn’t stay there alone,” I admit, trying to catch my breath. “I need to be with you both, especially now. I’ll wait in the car, whatever, just take me with you.”

He studies me for a moment, his eyes searching mine before shaking his head. “Tinks, it’s not safe.”

“I promise I won’t do anything stupid. I’ll just sit quietly and wait,” I assure him, my heart swelling with determination.

He glances over his shoulder at Thal, who is waiting impatiently several feet from the Ferrari, keys in hand.

“Okay, but we’ll have to take my car. His extended penis mobile only has two seats.”

Snickering in relief, I nod and take his hand.

I hear the loud bleep of the remote locking before my world comes crashing down.

The explosion is deafening, and I’m thrown off my feet, my hand dragged out of Ciaran’s involuntarily.

With my ears ringing, I land on my back, the sidewalk bruising my skin, making it impossible to move for a second. I’m terrified to look up, but hauling my battered body to my knees, my gaze pans across the street to the car, and I scream when I see the Ferrari engulfed in flames.
