Our table overlooks the water. It’s a beautiful restaurant, and the food is good, but…

“I’m spoiled because even though this food is good, it is not Jaasiel or Praise level of delicious,” Brooklyn says.

“I was literally just thinking this,” I say, laughing.

“Yeah, I think we all are spoiled, and can we talk about how well he taught Praise? She is Jaasiel 2.0. And when they are in the kitchen together… it is pleasure overload,” Lennox cosigns.

“It should be a crime or something for those two to be in the kitchen at the same time,” I say, proud of my brother for not only turning his condition to his favor masterfully but also using his unconventional way to put a menu together to teach others to think and cook outside of the box, and the results are out of this world. We continue talking as we eat our way through the delicious meal, relaxing from an obviously hard day for Lennox and Brooklyn. Eventually, I pay the tab, and we headed outside to wait for the valet to bring us the car. It is a beautiful night, not too hot since being by the water has cooled the blazing temperature by a few degrees. I pull Brooklyn closer to my side; the restaurant is busy so it’s taking a little bit longer to get the car.

“Majestic?” a voice floats over to us, and Brooklyn stiffens in my arms before pushing away from me to whip around to see who called her a name long since dead.

Brooklyn

I never thought I would hear that name again, and certainly not today, not while I was with Aryan. I pull away from Aryan, slowly turn around, and sway on my feet, causing Aryan to grab my arm to steady me.

“Big Time,” I whisper out. He looks so much like Supreme that the tears spring to my eyes immediately unbidden, and I am immediately back on the sidewalk holding Supreme in my arms.

“Call me Daniel, Big Time is in my past. I haven’t been that guy in years,” he says, reaching out to wipe the lone tear from my face despite Aryan mean-mugging him. “It took years in prison to let go of the anger and resentment, but I finally did. Once I got out, I met my wife, Royce, and began turning my life around. I looked for you for years but couldn’t track you down. I have something for you. Will you meet me tomorrow?”

“Um, we’re leaving in the morning,”

“We?”

“Oh, I’m sorry, this is my friend Aryan and my boss Lennox,” I introduced them. He shakes Aryan’s hand, “Aww, yes, the Doctor that came to Majestic’s rescue. I never thought she would still be with you. I probably could have found you a lot sooner. Listen, I really need you to meet me. I made a promise to my brother, and I haven’t fulfilled it, but now I have the opportunity. However, if you can’t, I can come to you;. Where are you living now?”

“We’ll come to you, and her name is Brooklyn,” Aryan answers for me, making him look up at him.

Daniel laughs at Aryan. If these two were to fight, it would truly be a clash of the titans. Big Time was as brutal as a man could get; he had absolutely no conscience and no empathy. And I know Aryan is a killer, so that would not be a good thing. “No disrespect, fam, I know her as Majestic, you know her as Brooklyn,” he says, giving us his address. “Is ten in the morning good?”

“Yeah, we can do that,” Aryan says.

“I’ll see y’all in the morning,” he says, taking his wife’s hand as he walks away.

“Are you okay, Brooklyn?” Lennox asks me once Daniel and his wife are out of sight.

“Um, I am not sure. I never really thought about ever seeing him again, and if I did what I would say, but I did not expect..” I trail off because I am still in shock.

“Let’s get you to the hotel,” Aryan says, leading me to the car.

“Two suites?” Stacey, the front desk agent, asks once we get to the hotel and check-in.

“Three,” I speak up, making both Aryan and Lennox look at me.

“Two,” Aryan says. I narrow my eyes at him because I am in no mood for this bullshit. “I said three,” I grit out between clenched teeth. He turns to look at me fully, and I guess he can tell I am in no mood for his pissing contest.

“I stand corrected, three suites next to each other,” Aryan says, still looking at me but talking to Stacey, letting me know that while he is relenting on me having my own room, he is not going to have me too far away from him.

I am right across the hall from him, and Lennox is next door to me. “I’ll see y’all in the morning,” tired suddenly, Aryan hands me my luggage as I swipe the key card, open the door, cross the threshold, and close the door without a backward glance. I know I was surprised and probably hurt Aryan when I demanded my own room, but I really don’t care. I do not have the mental bandwidth to deal with Aryan or any questions he might have. If he has an issue, then I’ll deal with it later. Truth be told, we are on thin ice as it is, at least for me. I move on autopilot as I strip, heading to the shower. As soon as the water hit my body, the tears started. I thought I had dealt with this, but seeing Big Time, aka Daniel, dredged all the old feelings back up.

The last thing I remember about him is him being sentenced for the murder of Chaka. They were barely able to make the manslaughter charge stick, seeing that no one was willing to testify against him. The fact that he tracked Chaka down and beat him to death in the middle of the street did not help with witnesses. Who was willing to testify against someone who would do that in the middle of the day in the middle of the street? He continued to run the Breeds from prison; last I heard, he got out and was back up to his old tricks. What could he have to give me? Where would I have been in life if Supreme wasn’t gunned down? Big Time doesn’t look like I remember he does not look like a former gang leader, but I guess that’s his wife Royce’s doing. I go through my nightly routine and crawl into bed. I don’t even pull my blanket out, but I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

CHAPTER10

Brooklyn

“Where is your little entourage?” Daniel asks me when he answers the door.

“I felt this was a conversation just for you and me. Where is your wife?” I tell him as I cross the threshold to his McMansion.
