“That is true. Sounds like you have everything planned out and under control.”

“I do,” she says, looking out of the window away from me.

CHAPTER13

Brooklyn

What are the odds that I would find the perfect location at the first stop? But I did. It was perfect for the size, location, and parking. It was everything I could have wanted, and since it was already established, I only had to make minor changes to get it up to code. I went to the other locations just to be thorough, but my heart was with the first one.

“How long will it take to get your equipment?”

“I can probably get it all in a month or less. I am not in a hurry, I want first to get my staff and then go from there. Some of the people coming in for an interview don’t even live in Mississippi, so they would need time to get their affairs in order.”

“That makes sense. The real estate agent called and set a time for you to come to sign the paperwork. Once you get the keys, me and my brothers will walk through so we can see what changes we need to make to get you ready to open.”

“That sounds amazing! This whole situation is so surreal. Lennox called me this morning to tell me that Dr. Dalton abruptly quit and is moving out of Mississippi without any explanation.”

“He was taking Lennox’s position, right?”

“Yes,”

“I didn’t like his ass anyway. He was giving you a hard time, right?”

“Aryan,”

“He’s lucky he is still able to wake up in the morning,”

“Aryan,” I admonish, trying to hold my laugh in.

“Let’s change the subject before I find him before he leaves Mississippi,” he says, and I know he is serious.

“Fine,” I say, my laugh slipping out. “We’re a little early, so let’s have lunch at Peter’s hotel.”

“That sounds like a plan, then I’ll have to leave you here while you perform your interviews, but I will be back to get you,” he tells me.

“That’s fine. Lennox is coming to help me interview; she knows better what to look for in the candidates.” We talk the entire way to Peter’s hotel. It is like old times, and that makes things so much worse because, real talk, he is my best friend. I am not that close to anyone except for maybe Lennox.

“Aww, Brooklyn, you look stunning as usual. Has Aryan come to his senses and taken you off the market yet?” Peter asks when we walk in the lobby.

“Nope, I am still unattached, Peter.”

“Wonderful. Shepp is training a new manager for one of the new hotels, and he would be perfect for you. Remind me to introduce him to you before you leave today. Perhaps you two can do lunch, and who knows, maybe even play doctor together,” he says, and I have to bite the inside of my jaw to stop the laughter from spilling out.

“I’m right here,” Aryan says, clearly irritated.

“As big as you are, we can clearly see you. But if you would get out of the way, people would be able to see Brooklyn more clearly. And by people, I mean men,” he says unapologetically.

“Peter,” Aryan warns, low and deadly.

“Aryan,” Peter responds, not giving a fuck at all. “If you not going to step up, there are plenty of men that will. Or support her because you’re a friend, and that’s what friends do,” Peter says, not caring at all.

“Peter,” I say softly to try to diffuse the situation before it gets worse.

“Come let me show you to my table,” Peter says, holding his arm out for me, leaving Aryan to trail behind us as he walks me to the restaurant.

“I have my boardroom ready for your interviews, along with some light refreshments for you and the applicants.”

“Peter, you are the best,” I tell him, meaning it. He pulls my chair out, sitting me before he turns to leave.
