“You’re so silly. Silly but sweet.” She turns to her father, “how long are you in town for?”

“Oh, um.” Max is silent, not knowing what to say now that the so-called wind has been taken out of his sails. “Why don’t you come back with me for a visit?”

Her surprised gaze jumps from his to me. She is lost as what to say.

“That’s not what you told me, Max.”

His panicking gaze lands on me knowing I’m going to tell her. Why he thought I wouldn’t I don’t know. “You want her to go back with you and stay. Isn’t that what you told me?”

I have no regrets telling on him. I know it’s a childish move but, oh well.

“Dad, I wouldn’t want to move there and be without, Griff.” Her beautiful sky-blue eyes fall on me and I suddenly feel like the biggest man in the world with her loving me. We haven’t said it to each other yet if you can believe it since I’m going to ask her to marry me. I know. I know she knows. Her hand reaches out to take mine and I know I have it all. There’s nothing more I need in my life. I have the girl I love and my mother visits often. I feel slightly bad Max has lost her but it was his own fault. It was his philandering that started all of this, gave me the opportunity to push it into motion. Gave me the most brilliant idea of my life. This young woman is going to be the death of me. But, boy, it will be a wonderous death.

“So, Max where are you staying?” I know his wife is still at their house she gets in the divorce and half of his earnings. She’ll make bank on being single.

“At the Hilton.” He shrugs and goes to stand, the chair groans in relief.

Kat’s eyes go to me and I see the pleading in them. I can’t. I know she wants me to invite him to stay through the holidays, I just can’t. We used to be great friends a long time ago, but that was years ago. He’s changed so much. So have I, I think for the better. I’ve grown as a man and Max hasn’t. He became bloated with the influence he had. Had, because he doesn’t have that anymore. Now he’s the small fish in the supersized pond.

Her red painted lips open slightly and my pulse speeds up. Every time I look at her all I want to do is fuck her wherever I can, on any surface I can. We have sampled almost every room in the house so far, when my mother has gone with her friend. Which luckily is often. It’s not that I don’t want to be with my mother, it’s just Kat and I are a new relationship and we learn more about each other every day.

I try not to groan out loud. She’s going to do it. She’s going to make me invite him to stay. I can’t believe I’m going to do it. I close my eyes and in the most disgruntled voice I can manage I don’t even bother to turn my head to look at Max. “Max, why don’t you stay with us for the holidays.”

What a man will do to make the woman he loves happy. Even make himself miserable.

“Are you sure, man?” Max asks eagerly as if he’s afraid I’ll change my mind. If I had a choice I would but the happy expression she’s wearing makes everything worth it. She’s still going to owe me big time. And boy am I going to enjoy making her pay.

I know begging Griff to let dad stay for the holidays was a bad idea, I know he’s going to make me pay somehow. He might already have started. We haven’t had sex since a few hours before we met dad in Griff’s office. That was yesterday. We’re getting ready for Christmas Eve dinner in a few minutes. Mom will be there, not sure how that’s going to go, at least dad hasn’t brought a date. Mom did say she has a plus one. I really hope this won’t be a disaster meal.

Going into the kitchen there is staff tonight for the meal, Auntie Angelina wants to be with the party and not concentrating on the meal. She’s still here supervising. She can’t help herself.

“Come on, Auntie. Let them do their work that they know how to do.” The caterer in charge gives Griff’s mother an exasperated look behind her back and me a grateful smile. I grab her hand and almost have to drag her out of the kitchen when there’s a knock at the door. Thank heaven for small miracles until she opens the door and Mom and her date are revealed.

I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised. Mom’s date is about my age maybe a few years older. I wonder how long they’ve been seeing each other? How they met? If it’s serious?

Auntie Angel takes it all in her gracious stride as if all of this is an everyday occurrence. She lowers her head in a queenly acknowledgement of the new guests, welcoming them sweetly as if she’s known him for years. I don’t think she’s seen my mother in years.

We go into the living room, the tv has a nature channel on sound off. Griff’s mother makes small talk and I follow, listening to everything she says and does. It’s her I want to be like. Be gracious like she is. A more modern version.

“Katrina dear, why don’t you go and get Griffin and your father out of that office of his.” Auntie Angel suggests, motioning with her hands in a move motion.

Oookaay. I don’t know what that was about. But I’ll do it. So, I walk to his office, their voices low enough I can only hear a murmur of voices not actual words. I knock on the door, “come in.”

I open the door, Griff’s behind his desk and dad sits in a chair in front of the desk, both had glasses with maybe brandy or whisky before them. Griff motions for me to come over to him and I do, he moves his chair back so I can sit on his lap, crosswise. Must be a power move because dad frowns.

Griff’s hand is on my hip close to my ass, he kisses the side of my neck the first affection he’s shown since last night. I don’t understand what he’s doing.

“Mom and her date are here.”

“Date?” Dad’s voice has risen a couple octaves when he questioned me.

“Yeah, she brought some guy.” I decide to play along with Griff and see what game he’s playing. I lay one arm along the back of his neck and the other hand on his chest, rubbing up and down.

Dad clears his throat, thrusting his head forward and asks, “Do you know who he is?”

“No. Some young guy.”

“Young guy? How young?” He puts his hands on the arms of the chair, starts lifting his body up but decides to sit down. His face is flushed a deep, dark red, brows lowered in discouragement.
