“My best friend asked me to come stay with him for a few days,” he says with a smirk, glancing over his shoulder at Sawyer.

“Oh,” I say, still shellshocked. It dawns on me that everyone knew about this, Mom, Dad, my brothers, obviously the Mercers too.

“Good catch, by the way,” Cullen says.

“Thanks,” I say, “It’s good to see you,by the way.”

There’s a moment of sheer happiness, of smiles that can’t be erased, of hearts that beat wildly, and of love that is blossoming.

I take the ball back from Cullen. “Hey, Sawyer,” I yell and I throw the ball as hard as I can in his direction. His hands shoot up in readiness, but my aim isn’t very accurate. He lunges for it, slipping and falling on the grass.

“Game time!” shouts Grayson, and everyone cheers.

But first, Cullen tucks a strand of hair behind my ear, kisses me quickly on the lips—and then he races to the ball.
