“Which confirms to me that you were behind it all,” Connor said. “SO… in exchange for me ‘calling it all off’… what exactly are you going to give me?”
She looked at me first, and then she looked at Connor.
There wasn’t a trace of emotion on her face as she said, “I won’t destroy you.”

“You won’t…” he said, almost choking on the words. Then he smiled malevolently. “Let me assure you of this, you stupid fucking bitch: besides marrying my wife and carrying on my business, I have one other goal in life, and it is one I will pursue to the grave: I am going to fucking BURY you. I will grind you into dust. I will make it so that the only people who ever remember your name will remember you as a warning NOT to fuck with ME.”
She looked at him for several seconds with absolutely no reaction. Then she got up from the table.
“You were warned,” she said, and walked out of the room.
There was a lengthy silence.
“Well, that went well,” Sebastian said airily. “Anyone for gelato?”
