After the session with Eve finished, it was pushing midnight.

“Johnny still hasn’t responded?” I asked worriedly.

“He was Special Forces, Lily, and he knows ninjutsu,” Sebastian reminded me. “I think he’s probably fine.”

I sighed heavily. “I just wish he’d let us know what’s going on.”

“We should get some rest,” Bert said. “God knows I need some.”

“Alright,” I said, and we agreed to meet in front of the courthouse at 7:30 the next morning.

We said goodbye to Bert, then Sebastian headed for the guest bedroom.

I lay awake for hours, thinking of the man I loved spending the night in jail for a horrible crime he didn’t commit. Not only did Connor have to deal with losing his father, he also had to deal with being framed for the murder.

I just prayed that Eve could come up with something that proved he couldn’t have committed the crime.

But the next morning, the only thing from Eve was an email from SheetRockGirl28293 with the subject header, ‘Still working on it,’ and nothing in the body.

Sebastian and I looked at each other.

“Let’s go,” he said. “Time for court.”
