I took the knife from him and shut my eyes. He was going to kill her if I didn’t do it, and she was leaving today. She would hate me, that I could bear, not her dying. I positioned the knife on her arm and hauled it down as blood spewed from the injury.

She whimpered loudly, shutting her eyes and not looking at me at all. She opened her eyes all of a sudden and her big eyes that used to be filled with so many emotions became cold. The injury spewed more blood, but Jordan laid there completely unbothered, looking at me with so much hatred that caused me to recoil.

“Good job son, let’s go, it’s time for dinner, don’t worry someone will clean her up.” He raised me up and dragged me out of the room as Jordan’s cold eyes followed me out of the room.

After about three hours, everyone had dinner and they were all asleep in their rooms. The securities and maids were sleeping too, Raphael and I confirmed. The only thing left was for Uncle Chris to come get Jordan and her mom.

The laptop beeped and Raphael checked the message.

Chris Vinzenco

I’m outside the back door. My car is not near incase it will attract attention.

It was happening, it was happening.

Raphael and I made our way up to the dark room with the keys that Raphael had stolen earlier. I really appreciated him. If dad found out about any of this, he would hit us so bad. He might even kill us, since we didn’t know who he was anymore.

All because of thirty five million.

Even though we knew that they were sleeping, we still moved quietly, because we didn’t want to risk anything. Raphael opened the door and we saw that Aunty Laura's chair had fallen over. We rushed to her and removed her mouth tape.

“Jayden,” she cried out and my heart clenched. This woman used to be a mother to me until eight days ago. “Jordan. Look at Jordan.”

I looked at Jordan to see that she had passed out. Her wound was still open and blood pooled around her.

Dad lied. He said he would tell someone to clean her up, but he lied. Why did I even believe him? I rushed to her and for the first time since she got here, I touched her with my own consent.

“Hey Flower, You’re okay, right?” I covered her wound with my arm and cried. God, I cut her deep. I cut her deep and long.

“Please, you are going home now, you have to be fine.” I saw Raphael cutting through Aunty Laura’s rope. “Raphael, please come check if she’s okay.”

He untied Aunty Laura who winced as she got her hands free for the first time in eight days. I mirrored her expression as I imagined the pain she must be in. She crawled to Jordan and collected her from me, placing her head on her lap.

“Hey my baby, hey. You’re okay, nothing happened. Mommy is here now, look Jayden is here too.” She cried and I felt my hands shaking when I looked down on my hands and saw Jordan’s blood –blood from the injury I gave her.

Raphael held her wrist for a pulse check and after a few seconds, her eyes fluttered.

“She has lost a lot of blood. She really needs to get to the hospital soon.” He said, and Aunty Laura and I cried.

“We should take care of her wound and stop the bleeding first,” I said, tearing my cloth. Raphael held my hand to stop me and I threw a glare at him.

“We don’t have time, we don’t know how long the sedatives will work,” he reminded me, but I angrily yanked my hand from his and resumed tearing my cloth, which I tied around Jordan’s arm to stop the blood.

“You sedated your dad?” Aunty Laura asked with tears in her eyes.

“It’s okay, Mrs Vincenzo, we won’t get hurt. Your husband is waiting outside for you. We will get you and Jordan through the back door to him,” Raphael assured and Aunty Laura covered her mouth in shock.

“Chris is outside?” She said looking at me and I nodded absentmindedly as I continued to stare at my Flower and the damage we did to her.

Raphael helped Aunty Laura up and she limped with a wince. I got up and settled Jordan on my back. We opened the door and snuck our way toward the back door where we found Uncle Chris tapping on his feet.

He ran to collect Jordan from me and he held Aunty Laura by her waist. She hugged him, crying and I stared angrily. She couldn’t slap him? Or knee him in his balls? I guessed it was just the way Jordan’s eyes were always telling me not to cry even though I couldn’t do anything to save her.

“Oh my baby girl. Jayden, thank you, thank you so much. I don’t know what to say or how to thank you.” He choked on his tears and Aunty Laura hobbled over to Raphael and I, taking hold of our hands.

“Thank you Raphael, thank you Jayden.”

“Please forgive us, Mrs Vincenzo.” Raphael said, bowing his head.
