She grabbed a set of her best towels. She took a deep breath, trying to shake off her frustration, and made her way back to Richard's room.

"Here you go, Dad. These are my best towels," she said, handing them over to him. It was hard not to hold her breath as he felt them.

"I guess they will have to do. Thank you, April. You're always so thoughtful," Richard replied, a smile on his face.

It took everything in her not to yell back at him. "Have a good night, dad."

He nodded and stepped into the bathroom. "Good night, sweetheart," he said before closing the door.

She was starting to feel exhausted and overwhelmed. The amount of work it took to run this place was immense, and her father's constant requests didn't make it any easier. She couldn't help but feel a little resentful.

As she changed into her pajamas, she contemplated what she would do. There had to be a way to get some help around here.

Then, it came to her. What do all businesses do when they need a helping hand? Hire someone. Someone to come in and help her with all of the tasks necessary to run the place so that she had more time to take care of the other half of a business, improving and preparing.

She should have known that she couldn't do it on her own.

As she got under the covers, April pulled her laptop onto her lap and began to type.

Attention all potential employees! Bed and Breakfast now in search of a capable, dependable front desk worker to assist in the day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will be friendly, organized, and detail-oriented.

If this sounds like you, we would love for you to apply! We look forward to you joining the family.

She smiled as she read it back to herself. It took several minutes to finish putting the details into the posting. The pay, work schedule, and the qualifications she desired. She was almost falling asleep by the time it was completed.

With a satisfied sigh, April closed her laptop and set it on the nightstand. As she drifted off to sleep, she couldn't help but picture the new employee walking through the front door, ready to help her run the bed and breakfast.

April couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. She had taken her first step towards easing her burden.

Tomorrow would be a new day, one with hopefully less stress.

CHAPTER SIX

The next morning went by fast. April barely had time to speak with her father, though that didn't stop him from trying to claim priority over the guests checking in.

April knew she needed to focus on the day at hand. Though chaotic and anxious, she managed to make it through. For being on her own, she handled the busy morning well.

The Millers sat at a table and enjoyed their breakfast, feeding each other pastries every chance they got. She couldn't help but smile at their beautiful love.

It gave a pang in her chest, thinking about love. There was still the whole Nigel situation to debunk. Who knew what was happening there? Maybe they'd already gotten back together. April wouldn't blame him. Lily was gorgeous.

But as much as she tried to push the thought out of her head, it lingered there, gnawing at her insides. She knew she had to face her feelings eventually. Just not right then.

She had other things to deal with.

Richard waited for her at the front desk when she finished clearing out breakfast for the guests. "What's the plan for the day?" he asked.

"Well, I finally have some time. I was thinking that I would work outside. There's lots of things to do before I can start renovating the ranch. I'm going to clear out the weeds in front of the fence by the barn."

It wasn't hard to tell that Richard had no interest in cleaning up outside. He was practically wincing at the thought. "Sounds like a job for gardeners," he replied, his tone indicating that he was expecting her to agree with him.

April couldn't give in to many more of his demands, or he would run with it. "I prefer to do it myself. It's good exercise, and it'll give me a chance to get some fresh air."

"Suit yourself," he said with a shrug.

Still needing approval and wanting that olive branch she'd been promised, April continued, "Why don't you go down to the beach and relax this morning? You can get some sun and look for sea glass like you used to."

Satisfied with the suggestion, he smiled. "What a splendid idea. I'll be down there if you need anything, alright?"
