"Misunderstanding?" April scoffed. "You mean you lied and manipulated me so you could get away with shutting down my plans?"

When he didn't have anything else to say to that, she continued, "The little threat you sent me about the fake law has his office's name on it. He would be implicated. And I'm willing to bet he would blame it all on you if things were to come out."

Isaac's eyes darted around the room, looking for an escape. But he knew he had none. "What do you want, April?"

"I want you to stop," she said firmly. "And if you don't stop, I'll let the entire island know what you've done to me. They'll see just how far you'll go to get what you want, no matter how ethical it is. And you'll have to kiss your mayoral campaign goodbye."

Isaac sat there, his face contorted with anger and frustration. He knew he had been caught, and there was nothing he could do about it.

He opened his mouth to talk, but April wasn't finished. "I'm going to continue doing what I'm doing, including making plans for a horse ranch on my property. I'm doing everything by the book, legally. And if you come after me, I'll be sure that you're exposed as the liar that you are."

"Fine," he mumbled. "You can have your little horse farm for now. Just know that this isn't over. Whatever you think you've won, you haven't seen the last of me."

April stood up, her eyes blazing with a hint of defiance. "I know exactly what I've won, Isaac. I've won the upper hand, and I'm not afraid to use it. You're just a pathetic man who can't handle a woman who's smarter than him. And I'll be ready for you if you ever decide to cross me again, Isaac."

Isaac didn't say anything, his eyes burning with anger and defeat. She turned around and walked towards the door, feeling like she had just won the battle of her life.

"I'll be back for you, April," he called out before she closed the door to his office.

She didn't need the last word because she'd already won. And she wasn't afraid of him or anything he had to say about it.

As April walked out into the streets of downtown Sandcrest, the air tasted sweeter. The late afternoon sky kissed the horizon perfectly, leaving the clouds to wisp in the wind.

She had finally put Isaac in his place. She had won the game of cat and mouse with Isaac, and she had emerged victorious.

April felt like she had a newfound sense of power within her. She couldn't help but smile as she thought about how she had outsmarted him, how she had taken down a corrupt man who thought he was invincible.

As she walked, she felt a sense of pride wash over her. She had always been a fighter, but this was a new level of accomplishment. She had taken on the most powerful man on the island and come out on top.

For the first time in a long while, she was free. Free from Isaac's threats, free from his lies, and free from his manipulation.

She felt like she could take on the world, and she was ready for whatever came her way. She had no idea what the future held, but she was ready to face it head-on.

Whatever Isaac thought he could do to her now, he was wrong. She would come out stronger, better, smarter.

April felt a rush of adrenaline as she walked down the street, her mind racing with new ideas and endless possibilities. She had always been a woman of ambition, and now she felt unstoppable.

The light breeze carried the scent of the ocean and the sound of seagulls in the distance.

April walked towards the beach, finally get to the shore. She loved the feeling of sand between her toes as she walked along the shoreline. It gave her a sense of freedom that she had never felt before.

The beach waves whispered to her as they lapped onto the shore. It was the same sight she saw every day, but after a conversation like that, she felt renewed.

She decided to walk home and bask in the relaxation she felt as she listened to the sounds of the ocean.

All of her battles had been fought. Or so she thought.

CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

April arrived back at her bed and breakfast, ready to face the responsibility again. She was exhausted from the events of the day, but she also felt an inner strength that she hadn't felt before.

She opened the door of her room and was immediately filled with a sense of warmth and comfort. The sun shone through the windows, illuminating every corner of the room.

The bed and breakfast had several guests checking in tomorrow morning, which meant April had a long night of preparing their rooms.

She had to do everything on her own now that Millie was gone. But it was better than having a thief walking around the rooms she so carefully curated.

There were others who could help her in other parts of her life and work. Like Jackson helping with the renovations and ranch. She'll be busy with the bookings, but the others could pick up the slack.
