“Mmhmm,” Stacey said, gathering up her papers and files. “Go on and get to it.”

I stood up from the table in the conference room and headed down the long corridor to the lobby, where I found a young woman sitting in one of the plush white chairs in our waiting room.

Immediately, I was taken aback by how beautiful she was. Her dark curls hung down, framing her high cheekbones and sharp chin. She had thick, beautiful lips- the bottom of which was tucked behind pearly white teeth as she gazed with large blue eyes down at the magazine in her hands.

Long, slender legs peeked out the bottom of a classy beige skirt that she paired with a yellow top and shoes. She was dressed with just enough color to stand out. Everything about her appearance exuded a touch of class that I had stopped expecting from the bloggers we’d hired. Most of them had shown up for their first day in jeans. I was pleasantly surprised.

“Jill?” I asked, checking her name on the orientation checklist Stacey had handed me.

She looked up at me and smiled, jumping to her feet and extending a hand.

“Yes, sir!” she said. “I wasn’t expecting to meet you today! Thank you for bringing me on board!”

I smiled at her. “Then you know who I am?” I asked.

She blushed. “Of course I do,” she said. She didn’t make a big deal of my image, and I appreciated that more than I could have expressed.

Still, despite my respect for her introduction and my appreciation of her beauty, I was her boss, which meant I couldn’t let myself fall into the trap of developing any softness for her.

“I’ll be doing your orientation today.”

“You will?” she asked. Her eyes bulged from her skull a bit in shock. “I don’t know what I was expecting, I guess, but it wasn’t you!” she said with a bewildered laugh.

I cleared my throat, hoping to signal to her that we needed to remain professional. “I always do orientation for new hires we recruit. If we reached out and made an offer, it’s because our team thought you had something valuable to offer the company. The least I can do is ensure you get off on the right foot by being trained correctly.”

She nodded, smiling at me. “That’s refreshing. I really like that. Thank you.”

“Of course, happy to have you joining us,” I said, gesturing for her to follow me to my office to get started. I decided to make a friendly conversation to settle both our nerves. “How are you liking the city? Have you had much time to sightsee?”

“I just got here yesterday,” she admitted with a laugh. “I moved into my tiny apartment last night and met my neighbor. She showed me how to use the subway system. That’s about it.”

I smirked, remembering my first days in the city.

“You’ll get the hang of it,” I said. “New York has a way of tying you to it after a while.”

Chapter Three

JILL

Icouldn’tbelievethatJeremy was going to be doing my orientation. All I could think about on the long walk up to his office was how blown away Aleshia would be when I told her. After all, she was the one who asked if I’d be working with him- and I’d told her in no uncertain terms that I didn’t think I’d ever even meet him. My experience working for MIM was already off to a strange but fantastic start.

As we sat in his office, he pulled out a tablet, explaining that he would use it for my training. “It’s going to be a long day of staring at the screen,” he warned me. “Tomorrow, we’ll get to more of the hands-on stuff, but today, it will be a lot of watching and talking. I hope you’re okay with that.”

“I don’t mind that at all,” I said, laughing nervously. “I’m pretty easy.”

Pretty easy? I thought to myself. Try not to sound like such an idiot.

He smiled, pulling up an orientation video he wanted me to watch first. “This is about the history of the company. I think it’s important before we do anything else that you understand the foundation of the business. It will give you an idea of who we are and what we stand for.”

He hit play on the video and handed the iPad to me, then stood up and went to his desk to work.

The video explained about his short baseball career and his time in the service. And how he was forced to retire from the military for health reasons. He had fallen on hard times and, with the help of some friends, built himself back up and then built this empire.

It was a good and informative promotional video, and I did my best to pay attention, but my surroundings distracted me easily, including the beautiful billionaire sitting nearby. I would glance at him slyly from the corner of my eye every so often, feeling my panties getting wet from thoughts of him touching and owning me on the big mahogany desk he was working at.

To distract my dirty thoughts, I began looking around his office. It looked like something out of a movie. The plush gray chairs were more comfortable than what you’d find in most people’s homes. On the wall behind his desk was a large aquarium with a small octopus and seahorses swimming inside, divided by what looked like a stained-glass barrier between them. It took all of my power not to walk over and tap the glass. I was mesmerized.

At one point, my eyes carefully wandered up to his chiseled face, and they lingered there for a short minute until he looked up quickly from whatever he was working on. Busted. I quickly looked down at the iPad, but it was too late. I glanced back at him with an innocent yet apologetic smile. He cocked an eyebrow and motioned for me to get back on track.
