The rest of the trip to Tanner’s is made without another word, and despite everything I want to talk to Brinley about and the information that needs to be exchanged, we both pass out in one of Tanner’s spare bedrooms as soon as our bodies hit the mattress.

I can sleep now because she’s where she belongs.

“Someone needs to get a picture of this before they wake up. Priest is not going to believe this shit.”

“Would you all stop? This is why nobody likes to be around you when they’re going through stuff. You act like it’s entertainment.”

“It is entertainment. Shane swore off ever falling in love.”

“Think he loves her more than his Beauty?”

My eyes crack open at the not-so-hushed voices of five people hovering in my doorway.

Blinking away the blur, I recognize Ezra and Damon first, with Emily, Ivy and Ames standing beside them. Like creepy ass stalkers, they’re all watching Brinley and me sleep.

Reaching behind my head, I grab a pillow and throw it at them. “Fuck off.”

Brinley stirs beside me, her head turning to see the company we have that nobody invited.

Ezra laughs. “Get up. Everybody but Mason and Ava are back already, and we need to meet downstairs to talk about shit.”

Still half asleep, I mumble, “Where are Mason and Ava?”

“Driving your car back.”

Damn it.

I was hoping it would be Tanner or Gabe. Not that Mason’s irresponsible. He’ll take care of the car. It’s just that it would be nice to have a few more hours away from the twoadultsof the group who keep calling these meetings.

“Get out of the room. We’ll be down in a little bit.”

They all turn to leave, but before closing the door, Damon pops his head in.

“No time for fucking. Just sayin’.”

He winks then shuts the door fast enough that the second pillow I throw slams against it.

Five minutes later, we head downstairs to find everybody waiting for us.

Tanner scowls as soon as he sees me, Gabe’s curious gaze sliding my direction from where he stands by the bar.

He takes a sip of his drink then slowly makes his way to sit next to Ivy, an odd expression on his face.

“Want to explain the logic behind breaking into a house and taking two strangers captive without discussing it with me first?”

My ass is barely on the couch cushion when Tanner starts in on me.

“It was three in the morning,” I explain. “Rather than waking you up and—”

“You decided to run into a strange fucking house, risking the twins, Taylor and yourself because of what?”

“To get Brinley back,” I sneer up at him.

Tanner is a damn good friend. A brother, really. But his attitude is becoming a little too much for me to put up with lately. He’s losing his damn mind over this fight with our fathers.

Sure, we normally let him call the shots and run the show. It’s easier that way. But there are certain times when we’re going to do our own things, especially when it comes to what matters to us most.
