I cross my arms over my chest.
“If you won’t walk and I can’t touch you, how do you suggest we get you out of the car and into the house behind me?”
Her voice takes on a saccharine tone, her head tilting to one side.
“Oh, I don’t know. How about you step the fuck back so I can get out the car myself, and then I’ll decide where I’m going?”
Yeah, no.
That won’t work.
She could make a run for it to any of the surrounding houses, and that would cause a scene.
Not that I mind scenes.
I just don’t need one at this particular moment.
“You’re going in the house, Brinley. One way or another. If I have to wrestle you in there, I will.”
Her lips pull into a feral grin. “You sure you’d win that fight?”
I mean … pretty sure.
She’s almost half my size.
And given my love of fighting, I highly doubt she has the same experience in it that I do.
Not that I want to fight.
Especially not her.
“Is there any possibility you can go back to the terrified woman in the middle of a panic attack? I think I preferred you that way.”
Brinley sneers in response.
“I’ll take that as a no.”
Her sneer deepens.
Sighing, I think back to what Ivy had said at the family meeting and pray to God, Buddha and the baby Jesus that one or all of my secret weapons are here.
Reaching in my pocket, I grin when Brinley flinches back. No, it’s not a knife or a gun like she probably thinks. It’s something a hell of a lot more lethal.
Pulling out my phone, I show it to her, and I can’t deny my amusement at her confused reaction.
I hit speed dial, my foot tapping the concrete as it rings too many times for my liking, but then she answers.
“What do you want, Shane? I’m busy at the moment.”
Ivy does not sound pleased to hear from me, and I have to wonder what the fuck crawled up her ass this morning. I haven’t even done anything to her … yet.
“I need a favor,” I explain, “and it’s kind of urgent.”
Ivy sighs. “What do you need?”
“You happen to be at Tanner’s right now?”
“Yeah, Luca and I are eating lunch. Why?”
