"That's confusing."

I shrug."Think about it like broccoli."

A confused laugh comes from her."Broccoli?"

"Yeah. You'll eat it and it tastes good, but you'd never go out of your way to just make yourself a plate of broccoli.I mean, if you like it in the first place, you might hate broccoli."

"I don't hate broccoli," she responds."And actually, I think that's helpful. So to you, sex is like broccoli?"

"Pretty much.If it's on the plate then I'm fine with eating it, but I'm not going to go out of my way to put it on my plate."

"I see."

I take a deep breath."We can't have sex," I say."At least not right this second."Considering it's barely twenty minutes since she fainted, she's not going to be thinking straight, even if she thinks she is.

"Yeah, it was a bad idea."She looks down at her hands, clearly searching for some kind of mark that isn't there.

I reach out and take her hand in mine, entwining our fingers and liking the way it feels."I'm not saying we can't try.I'm saying we can't do itnow."

She looks up, a confused expression on her face.

"I guess, think about it?And if you still think it's a good idea tomorrow, then we can try.So long as you don't have any more fainting spells."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."I meet her gaze, hoping she sees how serious I am about this.I want to help her in any way I can, and that includes this, but I don't want to take advantage in any way, shape, or form.

"Thanks, you're a good..."she trails off and frowns.

"You okay? Are you feeling dizzy again?"

Mandy shakes her head."It's not that. It's just that I was going to say you were a good friend, but that felt like putting a label on you that wasn't right.I don't think you're just a friend to me."

"I know what you mean," I respond softly.

"You do?"

I nod.

She groans and rubs her hand over her face."You can sense how I'm feeling."

"Actually, what I meant is that I understand because I feel the same way.But yes, I can sense how you feel."

"Why didn't you say something?"she asks.

"Because it's not my place to," I point out."They're your feelings to work through."

"So, where does that leave us?"she asks.

"I think it leaves us in the same place we're already at.We'll work out how to help you with your magic and then we'll see what we both want," I say."With a few date-like situations in between."

She lets out an amused laugh."All right, I like the sound of that."

"Same.Though it is going to cause a whole world of questions from Carmel to me," I admit.

"Why?"

"I keep telling her I don't want to date."
