Err... need your help.

Hello?! I need the suit.

I like torturing him, but I know it can’t last. I type back: It should be hanging in your office, boss man.

I laugh as I think about him in the sofa suit. This is going to be good.

We sip iced coffee in the car across the street from the small Freedom Valley courthouse, laughing in anticipation as we wait for Preston to come out.

And come out, he does. He’s wearing his black button-down dress shirt and his aviator sunglasses. His hair is mussed up from running his fingers through it, which I notice he does when he’s anxious or agitated. Today must have been a doozy.

He’s wearing dark brown and yellow plaid sofa pants. The best part? His butt looks fantastic. Only this guy can make a sofa suit look sexy. He, understandably, skipped the suit jacket. Itishot out. But the pants? I almost pee myself, I’m laughing so hard. Allie and Mellie cackle and snap pictures in the front seat. Preston spots us and makes a beeline for us.

“Shit! Go, go, go!” Mellie shouts and waves at the dash.

“I’m trying,” Allie says, scrambling to buckle her seat belt and shift the car into drive, but Preston has already made it to my window.

“Hello, Paige. Ladies.” His tone is flat.

“Hello,” I say confidently, with a small wave. My eyes are still overflowing with tears from laughing so hard.

“Hi,” Allie squeaks.

“Oh, hi, Preston. What are you doing here?” Mellie fails miserably at sounding casual.

Preston, clearly not done with me, leans in close, and his eyes meet mine. Finally, he says, “Just you wait, Paige.”

“Is that a threat?” I say casually.

He whispers right up against my earlobe. “No. It’s a promise.” Then he stands tall and backs away. “Have a good day, ladies.”

“Yeah, yeah. You, too!” Allie quickly throws the car into drive and darts off.

“Oh my God! Did you see his pants?” Mellie howls with laughter.

“No, I’m still stuck on the whole hot and bothered look he gave Paige. Are you okay, Paige? What did he whisper to you? Do you need to changeyourpants? I would have needed to change mine.”

“Sofa suit...” I say with a cackle, and we all bust out laughing again.

I don’t dare admit it to them, but I’m falling for Preston. I know I shouldn’t. I know it can’t work, but I can’t help it. He looks so good. Even in his sofa suit.

I can’t wait to see what he does to retaliate.

Beautiful Child

I openmy eyes to see Theo staring down at me, clearly ready to be let out for the morning and to be fed. It’s Saturday, and I try to sleep in on the weekends. I still feel like my body is recovering from the burnout of working eighteen-hour days for years straight at my family’s firm. Freedom Valley hours are a new normal and a welcoming rest.

I let Theo out, then start some coffee and check my messages. I groan when I see it’s not even nine a.m. and I have three missed calls from my mother. Yeah, not calling her today. Or any other day.

But then I see a text from Ty that catches me off guard. He’s asking if I’m going to Theo’s birthday party today. What in the actual—

What is she up to?

Shaking my head, I pull up Paige’s number and call her. She answers with a cheerful, “Yes, Satan?”
