Chapter 4

Liliana

Riccardo escorted Sophia down the hallway, leaving me alone with Nicholas in the dining room.

“Tell me, cara mia, why did you send Riccardo to walk Sophia back to her room?” he asked, a hint of amusement playing at the corners of his mouth. “I’m fairly certain she knows her way around by now.”

I raised an eyebrow at his obliviousness. “You really didn’t see it, did you? The stolen glances, the way their cheeks flushed whenever their eyes met; I think they might make a good couple.”

Nicholas contemplated my words, his expression shifting from playful curiosity to thoughtful consideration. It was fascinating, watching the gears turn behind his calculating gaze – always plotting, always strategizing. Even matters of the heart were subject to his methodical approach.

“You might be right,” he said, swirling the remnants of his wine in its glass. “It’s good for a man in our world to be married. It makes him more cautious, more invested in protecting what is his.”

I understood the unspoken implication of his words. He wasn’t just talking about Riccardo; he was also referring to himself and our own union. Our marriage had solidified his already formidable status within the mafia hierarchy and, in return, I’d gained a powerful protector who would stop at nothing to keep me safe.

“Speaking of spending time with loved ones,” Nicholas said, extending his arm to me in a gentlemanly fashion – mimicking the way Riccardo had led Sophia away only moments earlier. “I wasn’t aware we had any more work to do tonight.”

“Work?” I replied, my tone teasing as I wrapped my arm around his, allowing him to guide us to our bedroom. “Not work, Nicholas, but time together alone.”

He grinned, understanding my meaning perfectly, and led us to our bedroom with purposeful strides. Once inside, he closed the door behind us, creating an intimate sanctuary away from the prying eyes and ears that seemed to permeate every corner of our lives. No one in the house ever meant to spy on us, but with so many people here it was difficult to find time alone with my husband.

Nicholas turned to me, his eyes filled with warmth and affection as he pulled me into his embrace and pressed a tender kiss upon my lips. When we parted, he looked down at me with a sincerity that stole my breath away.

“You amaze me, Liliana,” he said, his voice low and full of emotion. “Your care for friends, and even strangers, inspires me to be a better man. I remember considering not going to meet your father all those months ago, but that would have been the biggest mistake of my life.”

His heartfelt words sent a shiver down my spine, and I found myself blinking back tears. In this world of darkness and brutality, his love was like a beacon of light – something to cling to when all else seemed lost.

“Nicholas,” I replied, my voice thick with emotion. “I’m so grateful you went to meet him, for everything we’ve built together, and for the love we share. I’m glad you agreed to my courtship rules,” I continued, a small smile playing on my lips. “If you hadn’t agreed to those two weeks of courtship, we might still be strangers to each other instead of madly in love.”

“Those two weeks were a revelation for me,” he confessed, his eyes locked onto mine. “And now I can’t imagine my life without you, Liliana.”

He kissed me again, and this time, it was a slow, passionate kiss that sent warmth coursing through my veins. As our lips parted, Nicholas reached around me and unzipped my dress. It fell to the floor, revealing that I had been wearing nothing underneath it. His eyes widened with surprise and desire.

“Liliana...” he breathed, his gaze darkening with lust. “You’ve been walking around like this all evening? In front of all the men in the house?”

“Only you get to see what’s beneath,” I teased coyly. “If you didn’t know, they didn’t know either.”

His hands found the curve of my hips, drawing me closer. The heat between us intensified, and I reveled in the feeling of his strong arms around me.

“You’re wearing far too many clothes, Mr. Romano,” I said, my eyes locked onto his.

I began to undress him, slowly unbuttoning his shirt and sliding it off his broad shoulders. Then, I went down on my knees to unbuckle his belt and unzip his pants. As I looked up at him, I licked my lips and gave him a seductive smile.

Nicholas leaned back against the desk behind him, his hands gripping the edge as I took him into my mouth. His eyes were closed, and I could hear his breathing growing ragged as I moved my tongue along his length.

I loved this part – watching him lose control, feeling the power I had over him as I brought him pleasure. Slowly, teasingly, I circled my tongue around the sensitive head of his cock before taking more of him into my mouth. I could feel him growing harder and thicker with each movement, and a deep growl rumbled in his chest.

I smiled around him before picking up pace and sucking harder. His hips bucked involuntarily, and I could tell he was close to the edge. He groaned and grabbed my hair, guiding me to the rhythm he wanted. As he did so, I reached around and placed my hands on his ass, pulling him further into me.

“God, Liliana...” he moaned, his grip on my hair tightening as he neared his climax.

He finally groaned loudly as he came in my mouth. I relaxed my throat and swallowed it all down, not wanting to waste a single drop.

He lifted me up and guided me to the bed, where he fell in next to me. “Still too many clothes,” I complained as I finished undressing him.

“Nicholas,” I began as I lay beside him, my voice soft with a touch of hesitancy. “I want to buy Sophia a Rolex.”

He rolled onto his side, looking into my eyes. The glow from the moonlight streaming through the window brought out the blue in his gaze, intensifying it like a storm at sea.
