“Girlfriend? If couples join as patrons they get a little gift...”

“Shrewd,” he says with narrow eyes and I blush because I don’t want him to think I asked for any personal reasons. “But I’m afraid the only thing I have is deep pockets.”

“You know who would love those deep pockets?” I ask, adding cunningly, “The deep, blue sea.”

He looks like he’s holding in an eye roll, or another biting response.

“I thought that was pretty witty at least,” I mutter.

“You do seem like the kind of woman who toots her own horn.”

Jerk! Would it kill him to be nice...?

I rush off after him then twitch when I accidentally bump into a large man and he spills his soda all over his leather vest.

“Bloody hell watch where you’re going!” he yells aggressively and it feels like he’s about to smack me with his meat like fist when Blaise shoves at him.

Not boastfully, like guys do at the bars but more like dismissively. Like the aggressive guy should think twice before even daring to breathe in my direction.

“How about you watch your bloody mouth,” Blaise growls, blocking me from this other guy who looks at Blaise like he’s insane. Blaise jerks his head my way. “Apologize to her.”

The guy stares at him then me as I peek behind Blaise’s back. Two women walking by stop and stare at us too.

“Now! I don’t have all day,” Blaise snarls, throwing an impatient glare at his watch.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to yell,” the guy finally says and I shrug.

“Sorry about your vest, but it probably won’t leave a stain. Are you a biker...?” I begin but quit talking when I notice that Blaise has already walked away. I hurry through the crowd, only catching up with him by the sliding doors.

“You’re barking mad,” I gasp because Roger uses that expression a lot. I clutch my fists to not tug at his sleeve to make him stop. “Going after a guy, three times your size like that.”

He throws me a sharp look that makes me bite my lip because it’s kinda hot. “You seem to have a flare for the dramatic. He was hardly three times my size.”

“He sure was!” I bleat when he inhales, looking like he’s about to explode at me and I bite my lip adding quickly, “I really appreciate that you defended my honor.”

Blaise softens a little but doesn’t stop walking and I need to run to keep up with him.

“Can I thank you by proposing that you fund me once more?” I ask, hopping sideways next to him with a dazzling smile on my face.

Snorting he says, “Thank me? Don’t you mean punish me? And frankly, you leaving me alone would be enough of a reward.”

So rude...

“Right,” I murmur, my shoulders slumping and he gets a concerned look in his eyes. But when I look closer it’s already gone, making me think I must’ve hallucinated.

Stopping a taxi, he loosens his tie and gets in while I stay out on the slushy street and suddenly everything seems so grey and dull.

“Pip pip cheerio then, Mr. Pendragon,” I say in a low voice even though I’ve never heard a British person actually use that term. Blaise picks up his phone and immediately starts typing away. Without even looking at me, he answers brusquely,

“Toodle pip, Miss. Crichlow.”

Soaking wet and feeling a little meh, I step into my apartment. Its downtown on one of the most trafficked street ever and the rent is sky high for such a small shack.

I used to have a roommate who would sleep in the living room but he moved out, which is a relief because he loved sleeping naked. And I didn’t have the heart to tell him it was inappropriate.
