“Goddamn it, that cock-sucking dick for brains.” I have no idea who he’s talking about. I communicated with a woman the entire time, at least that I’m aware of. The text came from one of those six-digit numbers that businesses use for mass coupons.

“Jesus. I’m an idiot and have absolutely zero luck when it comes to men,” I mutter under my breath, drawing circles on the sheet covering my thigh. Meanwhile, Easton is pacing back and forth, running his fingers through his hair, and grumbling about someone in his life fucking something up. Men, I swear. You can’t live with them, and you can’t have incredible orgasms without them.

“Noelle, do you have the emails or texts?” Now he wants to acknowledge I’m sitting in front of him. I stay silent, stand up, pull the sheet off the bed, and ignore him as I walk past him. My phone isn’t in the bedroom. It’s still in my purse, where I put it last night for the party. Easton can either follow me or wait where he is. While I understand he’s upset, obviously, I’m not to blame entirely either. Sure, I paid for a service, but that didn’t mean I knew he wasn’t a willing participant. Which opens up a whole other can of worms. Surely, Easton won’t try to say anything about us sleeping together, right?

“Noelle, I really need the messages.” I bend at the knees, hand holding the sheet in the middle of my back while I’m snagging my purse off the ground.

“I’m getting my phone, Easton.” I don’t dare look at him. I’m on a tender hook right now and could really use a hot shower to drown out the tears from my disaster of a life. I stand up, still rooting around my phone while holding my purse with my leg raised in order not to lose my hold on the sheets. Finally, I get ahold of it, unlock the screen, and scroll through my emails until I find the first correspondence. “Here, you can navigate the text after.” I pass the device to him.

“Thanks.” He doesn’t look at me. Yep, I really need a moment to collect myself. I walk back to my bedroom. He can do whatever he needs to. I’m going to lock myself in the bathroom, turn the water to scalding, and hopefully muffle the sobs I’m sure are going to take over.

Chapter 13

Easton

“You piece of shit. If you weren’t my brother, I’d do more than this.” During the whole drive to his house, my blood has been boiling inside my veins. I don’t resort to violence much, but on this, my brother needs to fucking learn. I yank him off the couch by his shirt, pull my fist back, and slam it into his jaw. The bone crunching beneath my fist has me clenching my own jaw. My hand aches from the hit as Justin staggers backward, unable to stay on his feet and falling to the floor. Right where he can stay. He doesn’t deserve to stand or sit on a piece of furniture. I’ve done too damn much for Justin time and time again, favor after favor, dealing with his antics and his leftover flavor of the week while he flees town. It makes me think he doesn’t have a fucking heart in his chest after all. I had hoped he wasn’t like our father, but maybe I wrong about that too. Maybe he is just like that prick.

“Stay down, or I’ll make you. You’re going to listen to me. I love you, you know that. I’ve done more favors for you than I ever should have. That’s on me, trying to make up for our piece-of-shit dad. This, though, it takes the cake.” I take a deep breath, my nostrils flaring, my muscles tightening. There’s no way for me to get my anger under fucking control. This doesn’t bode well for my brother.

“Fuck, you found out.” He wipes the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand.

“Yeah, I fucking found out. You’ve got a lot of explaining to do. You owe me an apology, and Noelle.” Shit, that hits me in the chest like a ton of bricks. Noelle deserves one from me as well. I was so caught up in how I felt that I left without saying a word.

“Shit. Yeah, I do. I’m sorry, yet I’m not. If you’re this fired up and ready to cold clock me, it was worth it.” This motherfucker. He must see the annoyance on my face because he keeps going. “Well, I am sorry, truly.” He swallows. “My new business venture is called Dates for Hire. I’ve been meaning to tell you, but then Noelle came across, and I knew she’d be perfect for you.” He wasn’t wrong about that. I’m not sure how he gained the knowledge he did, and that poses a whole other slew of questions.
