“I, um . . . do you want me to?”

He froze. “What? Why wouldn’t I?”

“You haven’t tried to take it off before now,” she whispered. “I thought that maybe . . .”

The bathroom light he’d left on for her gave off enough light to see his face, and she saw him close his eyes. “Fuck, baby. It’s not that I don’t want to see you naked.”

“It’s not?”

“Christ, fuck, no!” He opened his eyes and gave her a firm look. “He tried to make you get naked when you didn’t want to. I didn’t want you to feel vulnerable.”

He was such a good guy.

But also . . .

“I’m a bit nervous to show you my body. I’m different than I was before. And maybe not right now, but soon . . .”

“Soon works for me, baby.”

She let out a deep breath as he lay on his back. “Now come here and sit on my face.”

Which is just what she did.

And she discovered that the most amazing orgasm she’d ever had could be beaten.

And beaten spectacularly.

It wasn’t until she was on the cusp of sleep that she realized he’d distracted her from her ultimate goal.

Getting him inside her.

Rats.

“Damn, West and Flick made one beautiful baby,” Clem commented from where she was sitting on the kitchen counter in Mia’s kitchen.

Mia was finishing up a batch of brownies, and Hannah was keeping her company since Raid was out working on the ranch. Alec was in his office.

Clem had popped over for a visit and to gush over photos of little Mitch.

“They sure did,” Hannah said.

“Wonder who’s gonna pop one out next. My bet is Scarlett. I mean, she does have two men. She’s twice as likely to get pregnant, right?” Clem said.

“I think they’re going to wait a while,” Mia said with a grin. “Maybe it will be you.”

“Good Lord, no. I have enough trouble keeping the babies I’ve got under control.”

As if he’d heard and understood her, Lamb Chop appeared in the doorway that led to the mudroom and started making noise.

“Jeez, Lamb Chop, don’t let Alec catch you in here or you really will be a lamb chop.” Clem got down and shooed the lamb outside.

Mia refilled their coffee mugs and sat across from Hannah at the table in the middle of the big kitchen.

“You doing okay?” Mia asked.

“Sure, why wouldn’t I be?”

“You’ve been through a lot, Hannah. And then you moved in with Raid after a few days of being with him. People are concerned.”

“It was more than a few days.” Well, not exactly. It depended when you started counting. “And I’m good . . . sort of.”

Drat. Why did she add that last bit?

“I swear, lambs are demanding.” Clem walked in and plopped down in a free chair. “What’s wrong? Why do the two of you look like your lamb ran away with Mary?”

Um. What?

“You can tell us anything, Hannah,” Mia said softly. “If it’s about what happened with your ex or what’s going on with Raid. We’ll listen and it won’t go beyond this room.”

“Malone women’s creed.” Clem nodded. “Even if your last name isn’t Malone, if you’re seriously involved with one of them, you are a Malone.”

“So I’m learning. It’s just . . . did Alec tell you? What happened to me?”

“Not the details,” Mia told her. “But I guess it was something bad? He said that something to do with your ex has put you in danger.”

“That asshole,” Clem said. “What’d he do?”

She decided to take the plunge and tell them all of it. When she finished, Mia had tears in her eyes and Clem looked murderous.

“Oh, Hannah, honey. I’m so sorry.” Mia reached over and squeezed her hand.

“Someone better kill that bastard before I get to him,” Clem added.

“Is there anything we can do?” Mia asked. “Raid is being careful with you, right?”

“Um, yeah. The thing is, that’s the problem.”

Mia and Clem shared a look.

“He’s being a bit too careful. After I told him everything about Steven . . . well, he’s been handling me with kid gloves for the most part. Sometimes, he forgets and the real Raid pops through, bossy and protective. But he’s being so careful with me.”

Mia looked confused. “Isn’t that a good thing?”

“You want more,” Clem mused with a nod. “Is he getting you all riled up and then not giving you the good stuff?”

“Umm.”

“Because if he’s anything like Jaret, he knows how to give the good stuff.”

Yikes.

“Alec does too.” Mia looked dreamy. Then she shook her head. “But it’s understandable why Raid is holding back.”

“I know. And I think it’s sweet. It’s not that we haven’t done some things. It’s just, he thinks he has to do all the giving. And when I try to take things further or give to him, he distracts me with some more of the good stuff.”
