“Oh, shit. It’s too soon. It’s okay, I don’t want to—”

Before I can process what happens next, Scar literally falls against me and grabs my face in her hands and kisses mehard. I react instantly by grabbing her hips and pulling her closer to me. The kiss starts rough but slowly turns passionate.

My hands glide up her sides and I grab her neck, holding her in place as we devour each other. She’s the first one to pull away as we catch our breaths. Kissing her lips has become my favorite hobby. I lean forward, resting my forehead against hers, trying to slow my breathing and the racing of my heart.

“Yes.” She says it so low I barely hear her.

“Yeah?”

She nods at me.

Fuck yeah! I want to punch my fist in the air.

“Come to the premiere with me,” I blurt out.

She pulls away and I grip her waist, holding her in place and close to me. “I don’t have anything to wear.”

“I’ll buy you whatever you need. Hell, I’ll bring the wardrobe to you.”

“Ricky, I... I don’t know.” She bites her lower lip, causing my dick to strain painfully against my zipper.

“I really want you by my side and to let the world know you belong to me, and I belong to you. I want to share my life with you.”

The hesitant look in her eyes guts me, but I can’t fault her for not considering it. It’s a big decision and she’ll be in the spotlight. Her life won’t ever be the same. Her life won’t be private. The world will know her secrets and expose them. The paparazzi will follow her and Shaun everywhere. I have to do what I can to protect them. I love her.

Fuck. I love her.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn't have asked. I won’t put that pressure on you.” Guilt tears at me for trying to suggest she give up her privacy for me. But I’m not giving up on her for anything. I’ll retire and build a life with her here in our hometown with her son, and hopefully fill our home with more babies.

She opens her mouth to speak but flash after flash blinds us. That’s when I realize the vultures found me.

Damnit!

I tip my hat off my head and place it on hers. I grab her hand and pull her close to my side. As we walk past them, I keep her head down and shield her as much as possible. I firmly swing open the door of my truck, waiting for her to get in. I then slam the door shut and lock it. Rage boils my blood as I spin to face the crowd and snap, “MOVE NOW!” They jump back, but I don’t give a shit. My only priority is Scar and getting her out of here. I’m used to this attention, but Scar isn’t.

“Does Skylar know you’re cheating on her?”

“How long has this affair been going on?”

“Is her son your love child?”

Ignoring their questions, I hop into my seat and press my foot on the gas and gun it down the road.

“Call Sam!” I bark at my Bluetooth.

The phone rings twice before she picks it up. “Maverick.”

“How the fuckdid they find me?” I snap, glancing at the rear mirror and the road behind me.

“What the hell are you talking about?” I hear the urgency in her tone.

“The paparazzi attacked Scar and me in the open.” I take a turn until I’m on the freeway.

“I’ll take care of it, but Maverick, you knew something like this would happen.”

Her comment only pisses me off more. I ignore her rant and move on with the conversation.

“I can’t take her home. You need to call—”
