It wouldn’t be long now before we found out how all this shit would play out.

With only minutes to spare, Rocky and I had made it back to the clubhouse before Vegas and Sid. I was sick to my stomach the whole ride over. It’d been too freaking close.

The bikers had retreated to the back room minutes ago forchurch, to hold the vote. My nerves were getting the best of me as Mona and I set up the food for the celebration. The outcome should be what I hoped for, but I was on edge nonetheless, almost expecting to hear gunfire. It was ridiculous. The entire club wouldn’t turn on Rocky and kill him… Would they? I had no idea why I felt uneasy.

Maybe because I was so close to getting what I always wanted.

“What if the vote isn’t unanimous?” I turned toward Mona, but she didn’t look at me. She was still hurt about my engagement to Vegas. If I could enlighten her about it being fake, I would. I hated the web of lies we were spinning.

“It will be. Everyone respected Keg and knew his intentions. RJ will be president. Why do you care?”

“Excuse me?” I reared my head back like she’d slapped me. How rude and uncalled for.

“You’re marrying Vegas. Why do you care what happens to RJ?” God, she must really hate me.

“I don’t care about RJ. I’m worried about Vegas.” Lightning might strike me down for the outright lie. “What if RJ tries to push him out?”

Mona hiked her thin brow. “I doubt it. But I’m curious, is Rocky Nevada’s father?”

Oh, shit. If Mona had figured out the truth, she could convince Vegas I might still be in love with Rocky. Vegas was the only person in the club who knew Rocky was Rockson’s dad. He’d kept my secret and lied for me. Everyone else thought I’d had a one-night stand.

Well, Lydia knew the truth, but she’d asked me point-blank years ago. Sometimes it had felt like she was more concerned about me than she was about her own sister.

“God, no.” I laughed and took a bowl of chips and dip to the banquet table.

“They kind of look alike.” She followed behind me.

“Do they? I hadn’t noticed.” I set the bowls down. “Speaking of my boy, I need to get him home to the babysitter.”

“I can take him,” Tami said as she exited the back. “I need to get the special Jell-o shots I made this morning.”

“Um, I can take him.”

“Oh, please.” She waved me off. “It’s on my way.”

“No, it isn’t. We live on the opposite side of town from you.”

“Yeah, but I have to leave, not you.” She pushed her hip out and looked hurt. “Don’t you trust me with your kid? Every biker here would chop up my body if I hurt a hair on Nevada’s head.”

She wasn’t wrong. The members adored Rockson.

“Let her take the kid home. Vegas will be out soon and will want you.” Mona stared at me tartly.

“Fine. Take him. I’ll call Joy to make sure she’s there when you get to the house.”

“Okay. I’ll grab my purse.” Tami hustled toward the back, shaking her ass.

I went over to Rockson. “Honey, Tami is going to take you home. Remember I told you there is a club party tonight, and Joy is babysitting you?”

“I remember. You’re coming home tonight, right?” he asked, his forehead wrinkled with worry.

“Yes, buddy. I’ll kiss you before I go to bed.” I rubbed his back. “And in the morning, I’ll make pancakes for breakfast.”

“Yummy! Will Rocky be there, or will he sneak out like the other mornings?”

My heart jumped into my throat. Thank goodness no one was around to hear. “No. Why would you say such a thing?”

“I heard you guys wrestling and saw him leave.”
