“Yes. Nobody should be hugging my woman except me.” He gave me a sweet kiss. “I have something for you.”

“What?” I put my hand on his chest.

He presented a bouquet of my favorite red flowers.

“American pasqueflowers! How’d you find them around here?”

“I didn’t. David brought them.” He nodded toward him, standing at the grill with Raul, one of the older members. David’s daughter, Hannah, was also with him.

“I didn’t know he was coming.” I smiled at Hannah when our gazes met. She was Rocky’s half sister, but they hadn’t officially met. We’d only seen pictures of her. She hadn’t been ready a month ago, which was understandable. Rocky had been responsible for their younger sister’s death, but maybe Hannah was ready now. Her summer break was almost over, and she’d return to college soon. Storm had wanted everyone to get comfortable with each other. Family meant a lot to him.

“Me either. He called Storm yesterday, wanting to talk to me. So I did. He asked what he could bring, and I said the flowers… and also named some of Rockson’s favorite superheroes. Guess he decided to bring Hannah too.”

“Wow, I’m shocked. Are you going to talk to them?”

“I said thanks when he handed me the bouquet and nodded to Hannah.”

“That’s a start, I guess.” I popped up onto my tiptoes and kissed him. “Thank you for thinking of me.”

“You’re all I think about. Which brings me to a question I need to ask you.”

Oh my God, is he going to propose during Rockson’s party? He better not.“Maybe now isn’t the time.”

“Why not? It’s just a question.”

“Is it life-changing?”

“Yes.”

“Now isn’t the time.”

He cocked his head. “Okay, Storm can wait.”

“Storm? What are you talking about?” Was he not going to propose?

“What were you talking about?”

“Nothing. Just ask what you were going to ask.”

“Phew, you’re making my head spin. Don’t forget I have a tumor.” He rubbed the spot on his forehead.

“Haha, you’re so funny. Now ask me.” I wasn’t used to this newfound playful side of him, but I liked it.

“Storm and Maddox invited me to join the club.”

“Oh.” That was nowhere near close to a proposal.

“But I told them I needed to ask my woman.”

“Do you want to join? I mean, it can be dangerous. What about your head?”

“Well, you heard the doctor last week. I’m in good condition, all things considered. So yeah, I want to join. But if you’re against it, I’ll pass.”

I looked around the backyard at the festivities in motion: bounce house, cornhole, piñatas, water balloons, tons of food and treats. I couldn’t have put on a production like this on my own. Every woman in the club had helped in some way, after Libby, Angel, and Sugar had welcomed me into their tribe. Why shouldn’t Rocky join his brother’s club?

“Ella, if you don’t—”

“Rocky, I want what you want. If that’s joining the Knight’s Legion MC, you have my blessing.”
