It seemed everyone in my life had betrayed me. I couldn’t trust anyone, but I needed Xabier and Keeno, and they’d sworn their loyalty to me. They’d better have meant it because I would kill them without thinking twice next time.

“What else? So you fixed her tire and?”

“And she has a son.”

“What?” My voice boomed and shook the earth. I would kill the man who had knocked up my woman.

“He has your intense gray eyes, boss.”

“Not possible.” I shook my head, not believing him. “How old was he?”

“Not sure. He was a smart kid though. Cute too.”

“Bigger than Cole?” Cole was five.

“Boss, I’m not good at this sort of shit. Maybe the same age or younger. I didn’t ask.”

“Fuck. Did she mention having a husband?” If she was married, she’d be widowed by the end of the week.

“No. Just a boyfriend, who was the leader of the Hell’s Bells MC.” His words were a gut punch to my soul and sent me freefalling. “She’d texted her old man that we were helping her and told us to get gone before he arrived.”

“Don’t call him her old man!” I yelled into the phone. “She belongs to me!”

“And what about Irisah?”

“Don’t even fucking mention her. Get home so we can leave this godforsaken shithole for good.”

“Okay, boss. I’m not sure where all this is coming from, but we’re on our way.”

“Good.” I ended the call and dialed Vegas’s number. Xabier and Keeno didn’t need to know shit. They just had to do what I said without questioning me.

“Rocky?” he answered, surprise in his voice. “Is that you?”

“Yeah, it’s me, Vegas. How are things?” I asked calmly, so he didn’t sense my rage.

“Well, fuck. I feel like I’m talking to a ghost. Where the fuck have you been the last few years?”

“It’s a long story. One I’ll share with you over a few beers when I get the chance.”

“Are you coming home?”

“Eventually. But thought I’d check in with you first. How are things?”

“Good. Quiet. Come home. We can’t wait to see you.”

“Where are you?” I dialed in to laughter in the background and a young kid’s voice. Was it Ella’s boy? I couldn’t make out what he was saying, but I heard exactly what she said.

“Keep going, buddy! You’re doing great!”

“The park,” Vegas said. “It’s Easter, you know.”

“Yeah, I know.” I paused momentarily as I remembered leaving Cole on the driveway with his gigantic Easter basket. Fuck, I wouldn’t worry about him now. “Since when does the club celebrate the holy day?”

Vegas snorted. “We don’t. It’s about the bunny to us and a community thing. I’ve been trying to change the Bells’ image with the locals. We donate now and other shit.”

I couldn’t tell if he was lying or not. “Keg is probably turning in his grave.”

“Probably. So when will you be here?”
