“You’re right. I went silent and was gone for over five years. If Ella wanted to screw you all, I have no right to complain.” I clapped my hand on Vegas’s shoulder and felt the tension radiating off him. He was scared. Good. He should be terrified of me. “Make me a member and vote me in as president, and we’ll call it good.”

Eight pairs of shocked eyes darted around the room.

“What? I’m over twenty-five, and I’m Keg’s only blood relative. The president’s spot is rightfully mine.”

“While I agree with you, Rocky, you’ve been gone for a long time. We need to discuss this among ourselves,” Vegas said.

Grunts and nods came from the men around the table.

“Okay. I’ll give you twenty-four hours to figure it out. Saturday, we can have the ceremony and party.”

“That’s only two days away.” Vegas rose from his chair.

“Yes.” I waved at Xabier and Keeno to follow. “I’ll be in touch.” I went to the bar to find Mona.

“What can I get you?” The chick from earlier fluttered her lashes from behind the counter.

“Where’s Mona?”

“In the back.”

“Give my men a beer.” I slapped a twenty on the bar and went to find Mona. Stinky weed eddied in the air. I followed the scent, which led to Mona leaning against the back door and facing the outdoors. I cleared my throat to announce my presence.

She peered over her shoulder. “It’s like I’m staring at a ghost. How are you, baby?”

“I’ve been better.” A shudder worked through me, hearing her voice and smelling her powdery perfume. It made my gut clench, and I wasn’t sure why.

“You look good, Rocky.” She licked her lips. “So so good.”

“Stop eye-fucking me. Tell me about Ella. Where does she live?”

“So you’re back for her.” She toked on her joint. “I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am.”

“No, I want to know why the fuck she’s spreading her legs for the club.” The rage inside me was difficult to contain. I wasn’t sure where it stemmed from. I’d always been a violent man. But possessive? Losing my shit over Ella being with other men? The reaction I’d had toward her didn’t make sense to me.

“What else did you think she’d do after you vanished? Scornrock is a small town with not much to offer. She needed money, and no one would hire her.”

“And Vegas brought her into the club.”

“No. You did when you claimed her and put the Hell’s Bells mark on her.”

Christ, I didn’t remember her having the club’s mark on her. “And her parents didn’t help her?” I couldn’t believe they’d let their daughter sink to this level, but I only recalled snippets about them. Had they become estranged? That had to be it.

“Oh, Rocky.” Mona shook her head. “You’ve missed a lot, baby. You’ll need to talk to Ella. If she lets you.”

“Because she hates me.”

“Can you blame her? She’s been through hell. You can’t expect her to welcome you back with open arms. She’s done the best she could, and I must say, she’s done real good, despite it all.”

“What’s the deal with her and Tomcat?”

“They’re not together. You know Tomcat. He won’t commit to anyone, but he’s good to her. Treats her well when the others just use her.”

“I hear she has a kid.”

“Mona! Get your ass in the front!” Vegas yelled.

“Sorry, baby. Work calls.” She gripped my bicep and kissed my cheek. “Talk to Ella, but be careful. Wouldn’t want you to burn your last bridge with her.” She sashayed away.
