“Call him. I don’t give a fuck.”

“Right, because nobody else matters, only you.”

“Not true. I wouldn’t be here if you didn’t matter.” His intense gaze connected with mine. A cocktail of anger, lust, sadness, and adrenaline percolated in my heart.

“Oh, please. Tell someone who cares.” I rolled my eyes.

“We need to talk.” His gaze traveled down my body, and he licked his bottom lip.

“I have nothing to say to you.”

“Then you’ll listen to what I have to say.”

“Are you delusional? You don’t control me anymore.” I went to close the door, but he rushed toward me and stuck his foot through before it shut. “What are you doing?”

“You’re going to fucking talk to me, woman. I am not leaving.” He moved his face closer to mine, and I inhaled smoke, leather, and mint. “You will obey me.”

“Oh, fuck you. I will do no such thing, you arrogant bastard. Too much time has passed, and there is nothing to say. And my son is napping, so go away.”

“Ella, I just want to talk.” He stepped back and pointed at the steps. “Sit here, and I’ll stand back. We owe each other that much.”

“I owe you nothing.” I laughed at his ridiculousness, but it was all an act. The regret in his platinum depths was affecting me more and more. It was stupid, but even hearing him say my name stirred up buried emotions.

“Five minutes. That’s all I ask for.”

“Even that’s too much, but you’ve always been ballsy.” I would surely hate myself later for going outside to hear him out. I exited my home and closed the door behind me. I knew exactly what had come over me.Fucking Rocky. The magnetic draw to him was alive and well, fierce as it ever had been. “Get talking. The clock is running. Five minutes.”

“Damn, you’re a force.” He smiled victoriously.

“You say that as if you’re surprised. Now what do you want to say?” Had he honestly forgotten my sassiness? He’d known me better than anyone. I had to admit, it hurt.

“Is he mine?” His steely gray eyes shot toward the windows on the side of the trailer.

“Excuse me?” That was the question he’d led with. Like I’d said a moment ago, ballsy.

“Your boy. Nevada. Is he mine?” He made a tart expression like he hated my son’s name. We had that in common, at least. Nevada was an awful name.

Vegas had to have told it to him. That asshole!

“No.” I stepped back toward the door.

“Who’s his father?”

“None of your business.” My poisoned lies were clogging my throat and threatening to choke me.

“How old is he?”

“Almost four.” Another lie. My son would turn five on the fifth of July. He was so excited about hisgolden birthdayand wanted ahugeparty and pony rides. Tomcat had said he’d get the pony, and I’d accepted his kind offer. Most of the kids in Rockson’s class wouldn’t attend a party if the Hell’s Bells members were present. I figured the pony might ease my son’s pain a little.

Rocky twisted his full lips as he considered my answer. “What month was he born?”

“Enough.” I waved my hands in front of me. “You left me without a word. The one and only time we spoke, you were with another woman. Since then, a lifetime has passed. You’re not the father! You have no right questioning me about anything, you selfish son of a bitch!” Oh, he had fired me up.

“I have every right because you belong to me!” he yelled back.

“You destroyed any right you had to me when you left and didn’t return.”

“I had no choice. The Knight’s Legion MC was coming after me. They killed Keg. I had to go.”
